The City Council urges the Autonomous Community to take joint action against mosquito pests (29/04/2020)

| The Department of Health requires the regional government to coordinate a shock plan to facilitate disinsection in the municipality | The local government, through the Department of Health, has requested the Autonomous Community an urgent plan for joint action against mosquito pests in the municipality.

The deputy mayor and head of the area, Manuel Padín, has regretted that there are areas that require an express determination by the General Directorate for the Natural Environment on which action is not being taken because the procedure is not being speeded up.This decision has been made after a summit of the Health Department and the fumigation and disinsection concession company, in which a detailed analysis of the situation that the municipality is experiencing in terms of pests has been developed and it has been determined that the current panorama requires utmost urgency by regional and local technicians and scientists. The deputy mayor has acknowledged the work that the disinsection service concession company has been carrying out in the municipality since the beginning of the year, as well as his predisposition to redouble efforts aimed at solving this problem. This issue has led the mayor to require the autonomous executive to move forward imminently in the coordination of disinsection tasks throughout the municipality, with special attention in those areas of the coast where the proliferation of mosquitoes is greater, such as Los Urrutias, Calblanque or La Manga, among others.

"We know that the situation is critical due to the health alarm, but the mosquito pests do not understand viruses and due to the accumulation of water from the rains, puddles are being generated that are becoming a real problem for the municipality," he explained.

the deputy mayor, who added that “we must anticipate so that when the measures of the state of alarm are lifted, the plagues do not lead us to another crisis situation;even more so when we must work to recover tourism in a situation that will not be easy at all ”.

"That is why it is more necessary than ever that the regional government and the City Council go hand in hand in this and that we act as soon as possible in a coordinated manner," said the councilor. In this way, both the mayor and the technicians of the City Council are already in contact with the Autonomous Community to prepare this new crash plan that must be launched as soon as possible.
