Cartagena celebrates its most virtual International Book Day (23/04/2020)

| The Network of Municipal Libraries of Cartagena schedules activities through their social networks to celebrate the day in which reading is promoted around the world | Cartagena celebrates this Thursday, April 23, a very special International Book Day, due to confinement by the coronavirus; a day in which the reading is celebrated on the occasion of the date on which the deaths of Cervantes, Shakespeare and the Inca Garcilaso coincided. "This year, the activities disappear from the streets and libraries of the city, but they appear on the social networks of the Network of Municipal Libraries of Cartagena", explained the councilor for the area of ??Culture, David Martínez.The main act will be the reading of the book by Benito Pérez Galdós, Fortunata and Jacinta, at 7:00 p.m.

Many of the literary activities organized around International Book Day are being dedicated to the Canarian writer, as this year marks the centenary of his death.The writer María Dueñas will start the reading, followed by Elvira Menéndez, author of the novel 'Life of an actress', José María Álvarez, author and theater actor, José Manuel Puebla, cartoonist and graphic humorist, Carles Cano, author of children's and youth literature, followed by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón and several members of the municipal corporation, such as councilmen David Martínez and Carlos Piñana.

A large number of readers will also participate, including local writers such as Antonio Parra, Lola Gutiérrez and actors such as Alfredo Ávila and Pepe Salguero.An hour earlier, at 6:00 p.m., Internet users can enjoy a fun game that will test their literary knowledge.

And at 8:00 p.m., Cartagena Libraries have organized a Virtual Reading Club.The acts of the International Book Day began this Thursday morning for the youngest of the house with Coletas, the specialist in storytelling and promotion of reading.

Also today, at 5:00 p.m.

the children's audience will have the opportunity to enjoy a magic session with Abelmagia.

 The Network of Municipal Libraries of Cartagena also takes advantage of International Book Day to acquire the commitment to expand its catalog of "easy-to-read" books, as the organization Full Inclusion Region of Murcia claims.

Easy reading is a method of creating documents to make them easier to understand, thus allowing people with intellectual or developmental disabilities to have an accessible reading experience and fulfill their right of access to culture.

 From the Libraries of Cartagena take advantage of this day to make their literary recommendations.

This year, readings from The North Face of the Heart by Dolores Redondo, Frankenstein's Mother by Almudena Grandes, The Gypsy Bride and Carmen Mota's The Purple Net, Don't Cry for a Kiss by Mary Higgins Clark, Open Heart by Elvira Lindo , Infinity in a reed by Irene Vallejo and Reina Roja y Loba Negra by Juan Gómez-Jurado.Although the International Book Day is today, the Network of Municipal Libraries of Cartagena have made a schedule of twenty activities, which have been held since Monday 20 and will last until April 26.
