Manuel Torres: "The municipal government acts irresponsibly" (09/04/2020)

The publication of the City Council shows that the municipal government only wants notoriety and prominence, and makes clear the scarcity and lack of means that the City Council of Cartagena is using to control this crisis

The secretary general of the PSOE in Cartagena, Manuel Torres, has assured that the municipal government has acted irresponsibly by publishing the location of the local police controls on the web to enforce the state of alarm.

"The publication by the Cartagena City Council of the devices and time shifts that will be carried out to control movements is inconceivable and unheard of. No one understands that a police control that seeks to prevent displacement is publicized by whoever is going to carry it out. The political leaders who have authorized this publication should explain the effectiveness of a movement control publicized days before. This action highlights the disorientation and the desire for notoriety and publicity that the municipal government team has. "

Regarding the number of troops, the secretary general of the Cartagena socialists has regretted "the scarcity and lack of means that the Cartagena City Council is using to control this crisis since, out of a total of almost 300 local police officers, it hardly uses the best-case 22 agents in the morning shift on devices destined for the alarm state, reducing these to 14, at best, at night. "

This low mobilization, Torres pointed out, does not correspond to the importance and the need for vigilance demanded by citizens and, as stated by the Government Delegation to the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Cartagena.

"It is inconceivable that in the days that have elapsed since the confinement began, the City of Cartagena has not increased the number of police devices intended to control the state of alarm."

In this sense, he explained that in the face of unfair criticism from the City Council for the lack of control and police means at the state level, the local police have remained to date mobilizing "exactly the same means as on normal dates and days, even using the same means in their offices and usual services, without reinforcing the services of citizen security and proximity and proximity, nor the controls of the state of alarm ".

"The scarce interest shown by the City Council in the control of movements and accesses to the beaches of the western area of Cartagena is striking in this sense, as evidenced by the data published by the City Council itself," added Manuel Torres.

This situation clearly highlights the complaints made by the UGT police union, which criticizes the limited support of the Cartagena Corporation for its police officers and the lack of means and even a specific Contingency Plan to address police needs during this crisis.

Self-loading campaign

The Secretary General of the Cartagena Socialists has explained that, in contrast to this situation, the concern and uneasiness that the City Council of Cartagena has endeavored to move these days regarding the alleged increase in movements and displacement in some areas of the municipality is worrying. and that the data of the local police itself deny.

"The statements that the Government Team has been making seem rather to correspond to an advertising campaign and notoriety, since the aforementioned data from the local police in Cartagena, contrary to what our City Council says, corroborate what the Mayor of San Javier It has been affirming repeatedly since Monday that no entry of vehicles or people has been detected from other communities or towns in the coastal towns of the region. "

The reality of the situation, Torres recalled, in terms of movements and devices launched last weekend, including the festive Friday of Dolores, as reported by the Federation of the Association of Neighbors of Cartagena with data from the Government Delegation , showed that the Cartagena City Council did not foresee and certainly did not detect any extraordinary movement of people or vehicles since the Cartagena Local Police increased neither the number of troops assigned to control the alarm state, nor increased the number of devices of control.

In this sense, the Cartagena City Council only carried out 7 controls in the coastal area of the municipality on Friday, April 3;

2 controls on Saturday, April 4;

and 10 controls on Sunday, April 5.

In addition, in all the controls carried out by the Cartagena Local Police, only 6 complaints were made in the entire Mar Menor and La Manga area for infractions related to the state of alarm.
