COEC demands from the Government of Spain urgent measures in support of the company (30/03/2020)

Public administrations demand the enhancement of the figure of the businessman in this serious crisis and demands a protection plan for the company.

The deadline of 24 hours is considered insufficient to proceed to the closure of the production and activity of the companies.

It requires the Spanish Government to immediately postpone the filing of quarterly taxes and payment of social contributions for any type of businessman.

Before the publication last night of Royal Decree-Law 10/2020, of March 29, which regulates a recoverable paid leave for employed persons who do not provide essential services, in order to reduce the mobility of the population In the context of the fight against COVID-19, COEC considers any measure necessary to help ensure the health of citizens and to reduce or reduce the effects of this serious pandemic.

However, COEC estimates that companies cannot be charged with the full cost of that closure, as revenues disappear, but costs remain.

And there are many companies that cannot assume it.

In addition, the 24-hour period is insufficient to proceed to the closure of the production and activity of the companies.

There are sectors such as industrial and construction that need a longer period to stop their production processes.

This Confederation lacks measures that support and ensure the permanence of our business fabric.

Companies are the engine of the economy, generators of employment and development, and therefore it is necessary to provide them with all the necessary resources and measures that guarantee their survival.

The president of COEC, Ana Correa has demanded from the Government of Spain "the immediate postponement in the presentation of taxes and the expansion of the amounts to be divided, as well as the suspension of the payment of social contributions for the self-employed and SMEs. As well as the injection of liquidity in companies to avoid its disappearance. "

The line of guarantees proposed by the State will be used, to a large extent, to obtain the liquidity necessary to face the different tax obligations and with Social Security.

Therefore, companies are not being provided with real liquidity in order to meet their payments and guarantee their future.

"We do not understand how all the economic effort of this crisis must fall on our companies. The production and service provision of the companies has largely ceased. Revenue has been greatly reduced, if not disappeared. However, the administration He continues to collect his taxes and social contributions. It is a manifestly unfair situation for businessmen, "said Correa.

COEC considers that the different measures must be increased, urgently, that inject sufficient liquidity into our companies to avoid the total collapse of the Spanish economy.

Financial institutions must make a great effort to be extremely agile in getting financing to companies.

In relation to the regulation of "ERTES" and the prohibition for objective dismissal, this Confederation highlights the great insecurity and the limited scope for action left to companies.

It is an error to limit the duration of employment regulation files to the end of the Alarm State.

The economic recovery will not be quick.

Companies will need time, from the end of the Alarm State, to gradually incorporate their workers and start their activity.

"It seems that the figure of the businessman wants to be demonized. The company does not want to make layoffs, only to continue with its activity and equip itself with the adequate protection measures that guarantee its survival," said the president of COEC.

From this Confederation we want to claim the figure of the businessman.

We want to transmit all our support and encouragement to those businessmen who, day by day, continue to run their company, watching over their workers and, contributing with their effort and sacrifice to a quick exit from this serious crisis.

We are proud of them.

"We cannot leave all these businessmen unprotected. The Government of Spain must adopt urgent measures in defense and support of the company. We are not going to allow the reputation of businessmen to be damaged. We are bearing the full economic cost of this crisis, without a protection plan for the company. "

Ana Correa has concluded.

The president of COEC did not want to miss this opportunity without expressly congratulating the enormous work being carried out by all the health personnel, the security forces and bodies, transporters, the agricultural sector and food distribution, among other groups, working under conditions very adverse, to ensure the welfare of all citizens.

"Thank you very much for your effort and sacrifice" concluded Ana Correa.

COEC has provided on its website a specific section that brings together, in real time, all relevant information with labor, fiscal, economic, social security, health, occupational risk prevention and mobility content (https://coec.es/informacion- covid-19 /).

However, the Confederation reports that it continues to provide its services normally in telework mode.
