COEC appreciates the measures adopted by the Government of Spain (18/03/2020)

Given the serious situation generated by the Coronavirus epidemic, COEC considers the measures adopted by the Government of Spain, approved by Royal Decree-Law 8/2020, of March 17, to be extraordinary but urgent measures to cope with the impact. economic and social of COVID-19.

We agree with the Government of Spain that the objective is to maintain employment and economic activity, preventing the business fabric from being destroyed so that the recovery is as fast as possible once the health emergency is overcome and is followed by a period of rebounding activity and not of stagnation.

Companies are the engine of the economy, generators of employment and development, and for this reason it is necessary to provide them with all the necessary resources and measures that guarantee their survival.

In this situation, from COEC we ask all public administrations and all political parties for a unity of action with the aim of overcoming this crisis, ensuring the health of all citizens and maintaining our economic model, supporting our companies .

As has already been expressed by CEOE and CEPYME, and we believe that these measures will be useful so that the credit flow can continue to reach companies and we hope that they help preserve employment at the same time.

In the same way, from the Confederation we believe that it is extremely important that the Public Administrations immediately pay the pending invoices and those that they receive from their suppliers, even without exhausting the terms established by law.

As it has already been expressed by CROEM This will mean additional financial support for the companies' activities. We need to strengthen the liquidity of our companies by any means within our reach.

We understand that the Royal Decree largely satisfies the needs of workers, but is insufficient to meet the needs of companies, which are those that generate employment.

No tax incentive or bonus is included that mitigates the decrease in income, nor are the regulatory deadlines for the presentation of the declarations-settlements of the main taxes (VAT, Personal Income Tax, Corporation Tax and Withholdings) even postponed.

It also does not help the self-employed, who must continue to pay the RETA fee even with a decrease in income of 74% compared to the previous semester.

No company can survive with a 75% drop in sales.

Much less face the payment of that contribution.

It is obvious that more measures must be approved to solve this situation, as soon as possible.

The president of COEC has not wanted to miss this opportunity without expressly congratulating the enormous work being carried out by all the health personnel, the security forces and bodies, transporters, the agricultural sector and food distribution, among other groups, working under conditions very adverse, to ensure the welfare of all citizens.

"Thank you very much for your effort and sacrifice" concluded Ana Correa.

Finally, Correa has reiterated the need to scrupulously comply with the measures contained in the State of Alarm declaration, especially those related to the movement of people.

"I encourage all companies to adopt teleworking mechanisms and flexibility in the provision of work to guarantee the health of all our collaborators. From COEC, we are available to all employers for any management, clarification or request they deem necessary" has concluded the president of COEC.

For its part, the Confederation reports that it continues to provide its services normally in telework mode.
