MC Cartagena proposes to make a useful budget from the unit to face the enormous challenge that all Cartagena people face (15/03/2020)

José López: "The unpredictable but sure consequences on the economy of the municipality require direct and priority attention from the City Council. That is why MC reaches out and makes himself available to the government, as it is in Cartagena."

These days we live in an unprecedented social situation due to the effects of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, which has meant the declaration of a state of alarm by the Government of Spain just one day after the CARM decreed the confinement of the population of Cartagena and region.

The municipal spokesman for MC Cartagena, José López, addressed the mayor this morning and asked the government "to withdraw the budget project, in order to prepare a useful tool from the unit that is not born out of date in the face of the enormous challenge we face all the cartageneros ".

This municipal group constantly evaluates the situation and has verified that the local Executive maintains for this Monday the convocation of the Governing Board whose sole item on the agenda is the approval of their draft 2020 budgets in these terms:

"1. Approval of the non-financial spending limit consistent with the objective of budgetary stability and the spending rule, the Draft General Budget of this City Council for the year 2020 and the Approval of the Budget Plan for the period 2020-2022."

This being the case, the budget would be debated and would come into force later in the year, but it would not contemplate the social and economic situation caused by the Covid-19 coronavirus.

In this scenario, López has affirmed that his group's proposal is due to the fact that "we live in an unprecedented social situation, an exceptional context that requires far-reaching measures and compel us to work together to achieve the objective. Beating the coronavirus and overcoming , together, its consequences. "

Immediately afterwards, the Cartagena leader has taken for granted that "these circumstances could not be taken into account during the preparation of the project of 2020 municipal budgets", highlighting at the same time "the unpredictable but safe consequences on the economy of the municipality" that In his opinion, "they demand direct and priority attention from the City Council."

He has continued his argument noting that "the future of the entire region is at stake, of its self-employed, small and medium-sized companies, but also many jobs."

Finally, the MC spokesman has stated that, for the foregoing, his municipal group "reaches out and makes itself available to the government, as it is in Cartagena, to help society overcome this trance from unity and consensus".
