The CBA celebrates its fiftieth anniversary (06/03/2020)

The esplanade of the Diving Center of the Navy (CBA) has hosted an act of commemoration for its 50th anniversary, this Friday, March 6, at 12:00 hours, chaired by the Admiral of Maritime Action, Vice Admiral Juan Luis Sobrino.

Also present at the ceremony were the deputy mayor, Manuel Padín, and the councilor of the Infrastructure, Services and Coast Area, María Casajús.

Once the endowments of the CBA, the Military Diving School and the rescue and rescue ship Neptune have been formed, the Ministerial Order of January 1970 has been read, ordering the creation and location of the CBA facilities.

The act has begun with the reading of criminal laws and imposition of decorations, which was followed by an emotional tribute to the fallen.

During the intervention of the Commander of the CBA, the important historical event that is commemorated has been highlighted, emphasizing the most relevant events carried out by the unit both in the past and today and remembering the deceased divers and divers since its creation.

Finally, the anthem of the Navy has been sung.

HISTORICAL REVIEW

Ministerial Order 37/70 (OJ No. 11) of January 14, 1970 formalized the creation of the CBA, which was inaugurated on March 9, 1970.

The creation of the CBA led to a boost to diving activity within the Navy.

As an example, the rescue ship BS-1 “Poseidon” was integrated into this unit, replaced by the current “Neptune”, the Special Unit of Combat Divers (UEBC), the Underwater Research Unit (UIS) and the Center for Diving Instruction (CIB), later called the Navy Diving School and today Military Diving School.

After these 50 years the CBA has varied in its composition but maintains its main tasks.

The experience and technical knowledge acquired have allowed the CBA to have a normative and doctrinal basis that have made military diving a safe activity - within the risks inherent in diving -, effective and efficient.

From this experience, other civil diving communities and the State Security Forces and Corps are nurtured.
