The arrows return to the Holy Week of El Algar (05/03/2020)

All ready to celebrate the Holy Week of El Algar, with a calendar full of activities by the Association of Holy Week in El Algar, which will start this Sunday, March 8 with the reading of the Pregón.

It will be the prelude to numerous acts that will be the highlight of Holy Thursday with the procession of Silence.

This Thursday, March 5, at the presentation of the program, the Councilor for Culture, Carlos Piñana, said that the Association of the Holy Week in Algar has been in operation since April 10, 2001 and then along with the President of the Association of Holy Week in Algar, Anastasio Guerrero, detailed the acts they have prepared for this holiday.

PROGRAMMING

The Holy Week of El Algar kicks off on Sunday, March 8 with the proclamation, which this year is borne by the president of Caritas of El Algar, Ignacio Fernandez García, a person linked to the parish since childhood, which will take place in the parish hall at 1:00 p.m.

In addition, that same day the Holy Week poster whose author is Susana Spanish and the traditional appointment of the brother and sister of honor will be presented to the people.

Anastasio Guerrero, stressed that "the poster has the essence of an intimate Easter week, simple but at the same time great for what it represents."

The next act is the Miserere "a young act" held on Sunday, March 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the parish of Our Lady of the Plains, and then the Viacrucis is celebrated, where young people will have a special role leading the Achotes that illuminate the route of the 14 stations, this year through the Cooperativa neighborhood starting at 10 pm.

On Saturday, April 4 at 11:30 a.m., the rehearsal of the children of catechesis will take place on the throne of the burrica.

The events continue on Palm Sunday, April 5, where the protagonists are the children, who are what carry the throne of the burrica, and then the blessing of the olive tree is performed, in the Plaza del Teatro Apolo at 18:00 hours, then return to the church where the celebration ends in a Eucharist.

From this moment the preparations for the "queen procession" of the festivities begin: the procession of silence.

And on Monday, April 6, the ascent and preparation of the thrones to the church takes place at 9:00 p.m.

How new this year, the president of the Association of Holy Week in Algar, Anastasio Guerrero, has highlighted the recovery of the bolts in the star procession of this holiday, the procession of Silence on Holy Thursday, thanks to the collaboration of the councilor of Tourism, Cristina Pérez that will begin at 10:00 PM.

The day will end with the traditional chocolate for all the portapasos and assistants.

Finally, on Saturday, April 11, the events conclude with the collection of the thrones at 12:00 hours.

The president of the Neighborhood Board, María Francisca Martínez, has highlighted "the human team behind it, taking all that work forward."

He explained that the Holy Week Association of the Algar has been running for 20 years but that the processions have been going out in the Algar for 52 years, and that they have been evolving and improving until today, in terms of the thrones, the uniformity of the portapasos, the incorporation of the achotes and the procession of the burrica, which has been in operation for 8 years.

Currently there are 145 members, including portapasos, achotes and collaborades, who form the Association preparing the varied program of events each year.
