Manolo Torres: "The PSOE supports SABIC workers in their claim that no layoffs occur" (04/03/2020)

The PSOE of Cartagena held a meeting yesterday afternoon with union representatives of workers affected by the closure of the SABIC plant.

The representatives of CSIC, UGT, CCOO, USO and the group of independent workers were present.

On behalf of the PSOE, the General Secretary of the PSRM-PSOE and spokesperson of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Diego Conesa, the general secretary of the PSOE in Cartagena, Manolo Torres, accompanied by members of the Municipal Executive Commission participated.

The workers' representatives informed of the process in which they are following the announcement of the closure of one of the four plants that SABIC has in the La Aljorra complex.

In his opinion, the closure is motivated by the start of a relocation of production to achieve a lower environmental and production cost.

In this regard, the Secretary General of the PSOE in Cartagena said that "The PSOE supports SABIC workers in their claim that no dismissals occur," emphasizing that "the PSOE is available to all affected workers and will work to try to reverse and renegotiate the announcement of the Saudi multinational. "

The PSOE in Cartagena will appeal to the Corporate Social Responsibility of the Saudi multinational to try to reconsider the decision of the dismissal of 92 workers, targeting the 'Dismissal 0', so it will urge the Regional Government to be actively involved in the negotiation to avoid dismissal of workers.

Both Diego Conesa and Manolo Torres have made themselves available to all workers to help with everything in their power to prevent the announcement of SABIC from taking effect.
