The students of 4th grade of the Santa Joaquina de Vedruna-Carmelitas school lived on Monday, March 2 a day of approaching chess in an activity organized by the Department of Sports, within the ADE Program, with the collaboration and coordination of the Chess Sports Club The door.
The program is organized by the City of Cartagena and the Official College of Graduates in Physical Education and Sports of the Autonomous Community.
The day of Chess in the Cole, as this activity is called, is coordinated by José Lara, technician responsible for the CDA Lapuerta.
With an introduction to chess in terms of basic aspects such as knowing the board, the main pieces and rules of this sport, the talk begins.
Next, the movement and the value of the pieces and the final objective to win a game, checkmate the king is taught and put into practice.
The format of the activity continues in its second part with the practice of the students on the board and with the pieces initially of pawns and towers, as the first step towards how to play a game.
The activity aims to instill and develop the benefits that the sport of chess produces in children who practice it, producing in them an obvious improvement in school performance.
Among the benefits that chess practice produces in school-age children we can list the following: concentration, attention, memory, organization, planning, learning and social relationships among others.
On the part of the Carmelitas schoolchildren, a great reception and participation in this activity was appreciated, positively valued and recommended by the teachers of the educational center.
