Cartagena prepares to decorate itself with the V Contest of Beautification of Balconies and Facades of Holy Week (28/02/2020)

On Saturday, February 29, the registration period opens to participate in the V Contest of Beautification of Balconies and Facades in Holy Week, an event that has been presented this Friday, February 28 at the City Hall and in which the Councilor of the Area of Culture, David Martínez, explained that it is a great initiative by the Association of Women Brotherhoods of Cartagena, with which "we want Cartagena to look as beautiful as possible to receive our Holy Week and our processions."

The mayor has explained that they try to improve the contest every year and that more people are encouraged to decorate the historic balconies of the modernist buildings of the city, "decorate them with details so that they look better than on any other date of the year."

In addition, he stressed that there are also people who give up their balconies for others to decorate, encouraging more people to join the initiative.

The president of the Association of Women Cofrades, María Victoria Botí, wanted to show her gratitude to the City Council and explained that they have convened this fifth edition “with great enthusiasmâ€, with the aim that “the city of Cartagena expresses what it feels and how is excited about Easter, and what better way to decorate our balconies to see the best processions in our country. â€

The average participation is about 10 or 12 members, having had in previous editions participants from outside the city, with balconies decorated with the Holy Week of Cartagena in Murcia or in the Llano del Beal, for which there is also a special recognition for supporting the initiative.

The registration period to participate in the V Contest of Embellishment of Balconies and Facades in Holy Week is completely free and opens this Saturday, February 29 and will remain open until March 29.

On March 30, the balconies have to be installed, so that the jury can take the tour to assess the registered works and give the result of the winners at the beginning of Holy Week.

In addition, the president of the Association has explained that, since the beginning of Lent, they are spreading a campaign parallel to the contest, under the motto: "Cartagena is cofrade and Cartagena is processionist", to encourage people to hang on their balconies. Colored flags and emblems of our brotherhoods.

As for the prizes, the winner of the contest will receive a diploma and a cash prize of 250 euros, the second of 150 euros and two second prizes, endowed with € 50 next to the diploma.

The presentation of the contest was also attended by Lola Hueso, of the Association of Women Cofrades.
