Miguel Ãngel Hernández presents 'The pain of others' in the Mandarache Prize meetings (25/02/2020)

The Murcian author of the novel 'The pain of others', with which he officially participates as a candidate finalist for the Mandarache 2020 Prize, Miguel Ángel Hernández has met Tuesday, February 25 with thousands of readers from Cartagena, to present the for many it is «the Murcian novel of the time».

The writer's program of activities has begun with a press conference in the UPCT Boardroom, prior to the traditional meeting with six hundred high school students in the UPCT Paraninfo, during which students from almost twenty schools They have had the opportunity to talk with the author and clear their doubts about the novel.

In the previous meeting this morning, the Councilor for the area of Culture, David Martínez, said that it is a "novel of great psychological depth" that has had a great impact and has achieved great success, proof of this is his award as Murciano Book of the Year.

"It's nice that novels like this one, from writers in our Region," the mayor said.

For his part, the professor of the IES Mar Menor, member of the promoter group, Diego Sánchez, explained that it is a “publishing phenomenon†that is already in its sixth edition and whose success lies in having "different levels and layers of reading" .

On the one hand, it is a black novel in which the motives of a murder are investigated, and on the other it is a training novel in which the writer himself tells us about his transition from adolescence to maturity, and it is also a goal -novela in which it is told how the novel itself is built.

The writer, Miguel Ángel Hernández, said he felt a special illusion when participating in this project, since "he has lived it closely" by being Murcia, so he has been able to attend some of these acts as a public.

The author explained that he faces a different audience, and therefore, there will be questions that have never been raised before in these two years he has been talking about the novel.

"I think putting myself in front of 1,000 young people is going to be a good close for these years," said Michelangelo.

In addition, he has indicated that he did not imagine writing a novel aimed at a young audience, however, the protagonist is an 18-year-old boy, so that youth connection can exist.

He also noted that the writing of the novel was "very difficult to write" not only on a literary level but "because of the feeling I had towards history."

In the afternoon, the writer will visit the ARQVA Museum to participate in a special session with the fifteen young members of the Mandarache Notebook workshop and will finish his program, holding a meeting at the Cajamurcia Foundation with reading clubs and university students;

This activity that will take place at 7:30 p.m. is free and open to the general public.

On the 26th in the morning he will end his time in Mandarache by first visiting the IES Carthago Spartaria de La Palma and then meeting two hundred high school students at the Caja Mediterráneo Foundation.

THE PAIN OF OTHERS

Hernández's novel has garnered its general recognition of critics and audiences since its publication in 2018 and was then awarded the Murciano Book of the Year award.

The pain of others is one of the best examples of the so-called narrative self-fiction and part of a deeply painful real event that occurred in the author's adolescence: the truculent crime Los Ramos, in which his best friend killed his own sister and He killed himself after throwing himself through a ravine.

Miguel Ángel Hernández is the second of the finalists to visit Cartagena, after the visit in January of Samanta Schweblin.

In March it will be the turn of the last of the three finalists candidate for Mandarache 2020, Barcelona's Tina Vallès, author of The Memory of the Tree.
