Miguel Ãngel Hernández will present "The pain of others" in the Mandarache Prize meetings (24/02/2020)

The writer Miguel Ángel Hernández will meet on February 25 and 26 with thousands of readers from Cartagena to present what for many is «the Murcian novel of the time»: The pain of others, with which he officially participates as a candidate finalist to the Mandarache 2020 Prize.

The writer's activities program will begin on Tuesday, February 25 with a press conference at 10:00 am in the UPCT Boardroom, prior to the traditional meeting with six hundred high school students in the UPCT Paraninfo, during the which students from almost twenty schools will have the opportunity to talk with the author and clear their doubts about the novel.

In the afternoon, the writer will visit the ARQVA Museum to participate in a special session with the fifteen young members of the Mandarache Notebook workshop and will end his program that day by celebrating a meeting at the Cajamurcia Foundation with reading clubs and university students;

This activity that will take place at 7:30 p.m. is free and open to the general public.

On the 26th in the morning he will end his time in Mandarache by first visiting the IES Carthago Spartaria de La Palma and then meeting two hundred high school students at the Caja Mediterráneo Foundation.

The pain of others

Hernández's novel has garnered its general recognition of critics and audiences since its publication in 2018 and was then awarded the Murciano Book of the Year award.

The pain of others is one of the best examples of the so-called narrative self-fiction and part of a deeply painful real event that occurred in the author's adolescence: the truculent crime Los Ramos, in which his best friend killed his own sister and He killed himself after throwing himself through a ravine.

Miguel Ángel Hernández is the second of the finalists to visit Cartagena, after Samanta Schweblin's visit in January.

In March it will be the turn of the last of the three finalists candidate for Mandarache 2020, Barcelona's Tina Vallès, author of The Memory of the Tree.
