Pedro Olalla presents in Cartagena Think his essay and his documentary Greece in the air, a reflection on current democracy (18/02/2020)

Hellenist, filmmaker and writer, Pedro Olalla will present this Thursday, February 20, within the Cartagena Piensa program, his documentary “Grecia en el aire”, based on the book he wrote in 2015 with the same title.

The screening will be at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Alberto Colao University Residence, where the current state of democracy is reflected.

Do we really live in a democracy?

Is there democracy where real decisions are taken every day further from citizens?

Pedro Olalla, author of the book Grecia en el aire (Cliff, 2015) asks himself these questions and works both in the book and in the documentary that will be seen in Cartagena. Think about the inheritances and challenges of the ancient Athenian democracy seen from the Current Athens

A film that takes the viewer through the city of Athens - ancient and modern at the same time - to help him reflect on democracy from the place that was once his cradle and that today seems to have been chosen to erect his grave.

A film that claims citizens combining history, archeology, literature, thought and political activism in one voice.

A film to tell democracy from Greece, implying that redefining and conquering it is one of the great challenges of our time.

Pedro Olalla's literary and audiovisual works - which explore and publicize Greek culture by combining literary, plastic and scientific elements through a markedly personal language - have earned the esteem of a demanding public and prestigious institutions such as the Academy of Athens, the Onassis Foundation or Harvard University.

For the whole of his work and for his work in the promotion of Greek culture, he has received, among other important awards, the title of Ambassador of Hellenism.

The act will be presented by Jaime Hernndez, president of the Murcian Association of Latin and Greek Teachers (AMUPROLAG).

That same day in the morning, the IES Elcano organizes a talk-colloquium with Pedro Olalla, which with the title "Democracy, citizenship and community" and under the supervision of Professor Ana Ibez, will have as assistants with 80 students of 1st and 2º of Baccalaureate who study the subject of Philosophy in the educational center.
