The City Council is equipped with devices to facilitate conversations to people with hearing impairments (18/02/2020)

The municipal units have been equipped with several units of magnetic loops that will facilitate conversations with people with hearing impairments who use hearing aids and cochlear implants, as announced this morning by Vice Mayor, Noelia Arroyo, along with the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes Garcia, in a visit to the headquarters of APANDA, an organization that has collaborated in the elaboration of the project.

Arroyo recalled that in Cartagena it is estimated that there are 4,000 people with hearing impairments, "a population equivalent to a delegation such as the Algar, have daily difficulties to communicate with others, to make arrangements with the administration or to enjoy leisure" .

With the acquisition of the loops, the vice mayor added, "the city council of Cartagena makes its services accessible to all of them and intends to demonstrate the usefulness of installing these equipment in other administrations and services"

As noted by the President of APANDA, Encarnación Pérez, "magnetic loops are very interesting, because nowadays deaf people not only communicate through sign language, but they can use new technologies that are being implemented now, such as it is going to be installed in the municipal offices ".

A magnetic loop is a sound system that transforms the sound signal that we can all hear, into a magnetic field captured by the headphones.

The result is that the user receives a clean, crisp, perfectly intelligible sound with an adequate volume.

Its acquisition is part of the Municipal Accessibility Plan.

The City Council has been equipped with three table devices, for conversations between two people, and two conference teams, which allow multiple connections.

The table will be at the Accessibility Information point, available to all services on the first floor of the San Miguel building;

in the Office of Care for the Elderly of the Department of Social Services, available to all services of La Milagrosa;

and in the Technical Accessibility Office, available to any municipal service.

The conference teams will be available in the Unit of People with Disabilities (La Milagrosa) available to any service that requires it.

Accessible points will be identified by a logo in which the letter "T" stands out.

The letter T identifies the position in which the headphones connect to the magnetic loops.
