12 singers will show their art and feeling in the semifinals of the National Saetas Contest (06/02/2020)

One of the great events of the Holy Week in Cartagena, the National Saetas Contest, organized by the Marraja Group of the Portapasos de la Virgen de la Piedad, is celebrating its seventh edition this year.

This morning the presentation of the semifinals and the prize of the contest from its author, Fernando Saenz Elorrieta, took place in the Church of Santa María de Gracia.

The Semifinals will be held on February 7 and 8 at the La Palma Folklore House at 9:00 p.m. and the deputy mayor, Manuel Padín, is scheduled to attend the event.

The special delegate of Culture, Carlos Piñana, explained that it is a contest that bets on one of the most emotional styles of flamenco, such as the saeta, the song made prayer.

Piñana has pointed out that from the City Council, through the Department of Culture, they will continue promoting this contest because it is already part of their cultural agenda and because everything that is born from Holy Week is part of the idiosyncrasy of the Cartagena and emphasizes who bet on a musical genre so rooted in the city, as is the saeta.

The Elder Brother of the Brotherhood Marraja, Francisco Pagán, stressed that the important thing about this act is the recipient of the saeta, who is the Virgin of Piety, "love towards the virgin and everything she represents becomes reality through of the bolt. "

For his part, sculptor author of the trophy, Fernando Saenz Elorrieta, explained the details of the trophy, which this year consists of a more unified image between cantaores and cantaoras.

The prize symbolizes the wand that the portapasos carry, which is the bond of union of the feeling with the Virgin of the Pieta, it is in that wand where the musical notes, the saeta, that are rising towards the Virgin go.

"A simple but more modern image of what we had been doing in previous years," concluded the sculptor.
