MC: "The empty PP policies make the Region the national destination that lost the most tourists in 2019" (06/02/2020)

This morning, the deputy spokesman of MC Cartagena, Jesús Giménez, has assessed the data known a few days ago, disseminated by the National Statistics Institute (INE), which places the Region as the national destination that, last year, lost a highest number of tourists (6.93%) in relation to those received in 2018. The second lowest Community was Castilla y León, with a significantly lower percentage (4.72%).

In this way, the data is the true reflection of the failed regional policy on tourism generation, especially in the objective of fleeing seasonality and offering a varied offer that makes us competitive.

Giménez has started his argument remembering that "during the celebration of FITUR 2020, we verified 'in situ' the absence of tourism planning of the regional government, a huge opportunity cost for the entire Region and, especially, for our Region."

The Region, the most damaged national destination

He then referred to the data published by the INE to confirm that "our criticism was more than correct; since the Region is the Community that has lost the most visitors. As we said, we stand out as the one that presents a more offer insubstantial and nondescript thanks to the negligence of the policies of the PP and, now also, C's ".

An example of this is the decrease in overnight stays on the coast of Cartagena, reasons that "must be sought in the policies of the PP," he said.

Subsequently, he has listed decisions of the various popular executives, such as "the closure of a profitable airport, the mistreatment of the ecosystem (with the Mar Menor as a paradigm), and the contempt of the potential of Cartagena. All together constitutes the perfect storm that is adds to the slowdown of economic activity. "

'La Trinca' joins the lack of criteria and project in tourism

Jesús Giménez, then, has focused his speech on the local level, noting that "here, in Cartagena, those of 'La Trinca' continue to discuss whether to strengthen the Burial of the Sardine or the Cartagena brand. And so another year of punishment to the sector ".

Later, he added that "as if that were not enough, the last rumor is that, given the inability to manage and maintain the site of the Punic wall and the crypt of San José, the Government plans to close it."

"Curious way to boost tourism and the World Heritage Site is to be unable to keep the site open and even take the blind," he concluded.
