The university community votes the fate of 50,000 euros among nine proposals to participatory budgets (05/02/2020)

The university community of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) is voting this week to choose among the proposals submitted to the Participatory Budgeting initiative, in which 50,000 euros will be distributed to undertake improvements that, for the first time, have been able to present any student, teacher or administration and services worker of the institution.

The Committee on Economy, Planning and PAS of the Governing Council of the UPCT has evaluated the 28 proposals submitted by the university community, unifying the coincidences and discarding those that had no place in the call for exceeding the planned budget or for other vetoed reasons such as the hiring of personnel or actions already implemented by the Polytechnic or competition of other administrations.

Finally, nine proposals will be voted, one of them condensing three others similar.

Voting is open until Friday at 3 pm on the page https://participa.upct.es/ and any member of the university community can participate by freely distributing 5 stars among as many proposals as you wish.

The set of proposals that maximizes the number of stars assigned will be selected, subject to the sum of their budgets not exceeding the maximum amount to be distributed.

The scores obtained for each proposal will be made public on the University website, as well as the final list of the proposals to be carried out.

The nine selected initiatives propose improvements in facilities such as the conditioning of study areas and the shading of coworking areas in the Industrial School, the expansion of the kitchen in the Rectorate and new equipment in the Social and Sports Center.

Other proposals ask to expand the leisure book offer of the CRAI-Library, hold inclusive accessibility and sewing workshops and hold a technological event entitled OpenOcean Hackathon.

All measures have an amount less than 15,000 euros.

With this initiative, the UPCT seeks to increase the detection of University needs, favor the participation of all university levels, increase transparency in the allocation of resources, favor the communication of the university community with the Polytechnic government team and deepen direct participatory democracy.
