The UPCT defends a greater participation of companies in the training of students with dual degrees (29/01/2020)

The UPCT has hosted this Wednesday the fourth edition of the transfer sessions organized by the Network of Chairs together with the Seneca Foundation.

In it, the collaboration that the university has with companies and with public institutions has been discussed.

Innovation, training, employability or the keys to harness and enhance talent have been some of the topics analyzed.

Among the issues raised, the UPCT has defended the application of the necessary legal modifications so that companies have a greater role in the training of university students through dual degrees.

"A measure of this type would help the training we offer to adjust even more to what the labor market requires and that graduates, when they finish their studies, have a knowledge of the business reality that will help them in their employability," he said. explained the rector, Alejandro Díaz Morcillo, adding that this dual training has already been done, although extracurricularly, hundreds of UPCT students through the training grants offered by the companies of the Network of Chairs.

Together with him, the director of the Seneca Foundation, Antonio González, the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the director of the Navantia shipyard, Agustín Álvarez, the founder of Marnys, José Martínez Nieto, the vice chancellor of Innovation and Business, Alejandro Pérez, and the University's Innovation Coordinator, Rafael Toledo, who have also advocated “adapting the training process to job offers to help students guide their technical specialization”, in Pérez's words Shepherd.

For his part, Antonio González, stressed that "it is urgent to take advantage of the talent we have, we are not doing enough" and has stressed that "companies that rely on the university to investigate, never stop doing it."

In addition, he reviewed the results of the knowledge valorization program promoted by the Ministry of Employment, Research and Universities through which research projects with commercial application have been developed, of which 16 are led by UPCT promoters.

Agustín Álvarez, Navantia shipyard director, commented that “for us, collaboration with the UPCT is essential.

We are a public and strategic company, and we are committed to social development, but we are also a technological and innovative company, so you need a university like UPCT at your side that is an intrinsic part of your innovative and technological ecosystem. ”

José Martínez Nieto, founder of Marnys, also said that “it is good to share what we are doing to improve in all areas between all parties”.

The Network of Chairs of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) is made up of 47 technological, entrepreneurship and socio-economic chairs in which leading companies and organizations participate in different sectors.

All of them carry out training, research and development or knowledge transfer activities in areas of common interest.
