Particle pollution falls to preventive level 1 in Escombreras and Alumbres, while it remains in corrective level 2 in La Aljorra and Santa Lucía (26/01/2020)

The General Directorate of Environment and Mar Menor of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment of the Region of Murcia has informed the City of Cartagena of the level 1 preventive warning of suspension particles (PM10) areas of the Valley of Escombreras and Alumbres, having produced daily averages yesterday that were above 45 and below 50 micrograms of PM10 suspended particles at the stations of these two locations.

However, the corrective alert level 2 is maintained in La Aljorra and Santa Lucía (Mompeán Bridge), accounting for values ​​above 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air at these two points.

According to the Municipal Action Framework Protocol in environmental episodes of contamination of NO2 and PM10 if today Sunday again values ​​greater than 50 micrograms were recorded at the stations of La Aljorra and Mompeán would imply the declaration of a new alert level 3, at these values ​​are counted for the fifth consecutive day.

The City Council of Cartagena persists in its recommendations to the general population in the areas of La Aljorra and the coastal area of ​​the City to reduce as much as possible the use of the private vehicle, sharing it and conducting an efficient driving, without sudden accelerations and respecting the Speed ​​limits.

Likewise, it is advisable to use public transport, not to carry out outdoor activities that require a great physical effort or that cause smoke or dust, such as burning burns, works or plows of fields.

The forecasts indicate that during Sunday the concentrations will tend to be reduced, although mineral dust concentrations in the range 40-80 μg / m3 could still be recorded in areas of the northeast, east and southeast of the peninsula.

In addition, according to the SKIRON model, it is expected that there will be events of dry dust deposition in areas of the Balearic archipelago and the eastern peninsular third and in areas of the peninsular northwest during the afternoon of January 26.

There may also be events of wet dust deposition in areas of the southeast, east and southeast of the peninsular throughout the weekend.

For Monday, January 27, it is expected that throughout the day mineral dust concentrations can be recorded in the range 20-40 μg / m3 in areas of the center and peninsular lift, as well as in the Canary archipelago, and that in the afternoon They could register in areas of the southeast peninsular.

It is expected that on the 27th there may also be isolated events of dry dust deposits in central, northeastern and peninsular areas starting at noon.
