They refer pollution values although within level 3 alert (24/01/2020)

The values in the measuring stations of the municipality of Cartagena show in the last hours a downward trend in the high levels of contamination by suspended particles (PM10) recorded in the last two days.

The Councilor for the Environment, Cristina Mora, highlighted the positive response of citizens to the measures put in place to mitigate the effects of this episode in which the highest level of alert has been activated by the Autonomous Community.

Compared to the measurements of last Wednesday, which revolved around 141 micrograms per cubic meter of air, this Friday morning they have been reduced to 81 micrograms per cubic meter of air, although level 3 remains active, due to the overcoming of the permitted values of 50 micrograms of suspended particles (PM10) per cubic meter of air.

The Councilor for the Environment, Cristina Mora, said that "from Cartagena City Council a series of measures have been adopted to minimize the effects of high levels of pollution, such as reducing the temperature of heating and promoting the use of public transport , for which it has been possible that during this Friday buses are free to reduce travel by private vehicle. "

On the other hand, with the collaboration of Local Police, the access of vehicles to the town center has been limited from 08:30 to 13:30 hours less special vehicles and loading and unloading until 11:00 hours, and there is greater vigilance and maximum speed control.

In addition, the blowing machine will not be used from infrastructure areas and demolition work has been halted to reduce the emission of contaminating particles.

To study how long to keep level 3 alert, the Cartagena City Council will continue to contact the General Directorate of Environment and Mar Menor of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment of the Region of Murcia.

Although the forecasts are very favorable in terms of the decrease in PM10 particles, it is still waiting for the results of the different measuring stations.

The situation of high pollution has been notified to the public, and in particular neighborhood boards, neighborhood associations and sports clubs.

It has also been communicated the measure taken of the free public transport, which Cristina Mora has pointed out "has great effectiveness, since citizens are using the service to minimize the use of private transport."
