Cartagena Piensa presents the global social movement Extinction Rebellion (24/01/2020)

The program of the Department of Culture Cartagena Piensa presents the worldwide social movement, Extinction Rebellion, whose objective is to influence the world's governments and global environmental policies, through non-violent resistance to minimize mass extinction and global warming.

The presentation, which will take place on Tuesday, January 28 at 8:00 p.m. at the Josefina Soria del Luzzyy Library, is framed in the line of “Thinking the eco-social transition: new movements for the climate”, developed by Cartagena Think in his programming, and that will feature the intervention of the writer, educator and environmental activist, Grian A. Cutanda.

The event will be presented by the member of the Cartagena Piensa promoter group, David Avils.

ABOUT EXTINCTION REBELLION

Under the title “Road to extinction and what can we do about it”, an informative talk about the true climatic emergency situation we live in, a topic on which there is a great lack of knowledge on the part of the citizenship is raised.

This talk offers information (in a language accessible to all audiences) of research published in the most prestigious scientific journals, such as Nature or the official journal of the Academy of Sciences of the United States.

The alarm and unease caused by these investigations is the reason that has led to a non-violent rebellion of global civil society due to the inaction of governments and markets.

This is what Extinction Rebellion (known as XR), a global social movement, which will be discussed in the second part of the talk, exposing its origins, its demands, its principles and values, and its methods of action.

Grian A. Cutanda is a writer, with 15 published books, some of them translated up to 12 languages, highlighting his international bestseller The gardener.

He is also a psychologist from the University of Valencia and a PhD in Education Sciences from the University of Granada, with a global project, The Earth Stories Collection, based on his research and supported by the Earth Charter International, at the University for Peace of the United Nations, in Costa Rica, and by the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, in the United Kingdom.

As an environmental activist, Grian was part of the 2014 and 2015 climate campaign in Scotland, and has been one of the drivers of XR in Spain and Mexico, being part of the state coordinator in Spain.

It has also been a regional link with Latin America within XR International.
