Cartagena pays tribute to its history in FITUR (21/01/2020)

The City Council of Cartagena is already preparing for a new appointment of the most important tourism fair in Spain, FITUR.

This is not an ordinary edition, first because FITUR celebrates its 40th anniversary and second because Cartagena is running to achieve the declaration of a World Heritage City of Unesco and this fact could not go unnoticed in the biggest tourist showcase of our country.

The proposal, which was officially announced in October last year, will allow Cartagena to join the distinguished list of Spanish cities that have already been recognized by Unesco with this distinction.

Its natural and cultural heritage, its archeological legacy and the impressive historical trace left by various civilizations during its 3,000 years old, are the best emblem to achieve this purpose.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, who will head the Cartagena delegation in FITUR, is a faithful defender of this initiative that will contribute to “continue putting Cartagena on the international map of Tourism and Culture, since we have all the potential and requirements necessary for it ”.

In this sense, he affirms that “it would be a great honor and, above all, a great responsibility” to be a member of this select club, currently formed by 15 other cities in Spain.

The presentation of the candidacy at the Tourism Fair will take place on Thursday 23 at 12.30 pm at the stand of the Region of Murcia and will participate in the president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, and the first mayor of the port city Ana Belén Castejón.

The New Museum of the Barrio del Foro Romano will be another attraction that will be promoted this year, in fact, it will be the first presentation of Cartagena at the fair on Wednesday 22 at 12.30 pm.

The museum building, which has been built, with a budget of 956,544.11 euros, is already finished and is missing the museum's discourse through its archaeological pieces and collections, which will soon be enjoyed.

Cartagena's Holy Week will also be present at the fair.

The same Wednesday 22, but at 13.30 hours, this year's poster, by Moises Ruiz, will be presented at an event dedicated to religious tourism.

Already at the weekend, the most emblematic parties of Cartagena will be the protagonists, with a broad representation composed of the Federation of Troops and Legions of Carthaginians and Romans, as well as the most prominent characters of the new edition of the Cartagena Carnival.

Thus, on Friday, January 24, the stand of the Region of Murcia will again be filled with feathers and swords to publicize the two most important celebrations of those that take place in the municipality.
