Traffic launches a Special Campaign for Vehicle Surveillance and Control (21/01/2020)

The Local Police of Cartagena joins the Special Campaign for surveillance and control of vehicle conditions, launched by the General Directorate of Traffic from January 22 to 26, in accordance with the programming of the Campaigns and Surveillance Operations and Control for the year 2020. It was scheduled to start on the 20th, however, due to the storm, the campaign will begin operating at interurban roads on Wednesday, January 22.

The objective of this campaign is to help reduce the number of injuries and deaths in traffic accidents, as well as contribute to strengthening its impact on society, so that they have a more accurate idea of the incidents and their evolution at the national level.

The age of the vehicle is a risk factor, especially for safety systems and equipment, in addition to the problems arising from its use.

According to the information published by the DGT, the average age of the car park has increased by 1.6 years in the 2011-2018 period, with an average age of 10.9 years.

The risk of death or seriousness is multiplied by two when comparing accidents that occur with vehicles from 10 to 15 years, in relation to vehicles less than 5 years.

In the rest of the vehicles, the situation is quite similar, with the average age of the car fleet oscillating, with less than 25 years, between 8.6 years in industrial tractors and 12.3 years of trucks and vans.

To combat the accident rate, it is essential to maintain and fine-tune the main safety elements of the vehicle: tires, brakes, lights and signaling.

Investing in vehicle maintenance is investing in security.
