In 2019, the International Protection applications have doubled
The Ángel Tomás-FISAT Foundation in Cartagena has opened a new residential resource for applicants for International Protection.
The Inma Bernal floor is a reality thanks to the financing of the General Directorate of Integration and Humanitarian Attention of the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security co-financed by the European Union, Asylum Fund, Migration and Integration.
The new FISAT resource has started operating on January 20, has 4 seats, and is expected to serve about 8 recipients this year.
It is a temporary residential shelter resource aimed at applicants or beneficiaries of international protection.
The opening of the Inma Bernal Floor is due to the increase in demand: "The requests for International Protection have doubled in the year 2019. More and more people exist that for different reasons their physical integrity is in danger and they are forced to leave their countries of origin and seek protection in other countries. These are people who need to be welcomed for a period of time and accompanied in their process of knowledge and inclusion in the society in which they have come to live, "explains Cristina Riquelme, coordinator of FISAT-Cartagena projects.
FISAT works in Cartagena especially with migrants, offering comprehensive care through different resources.
In the Inma Bernal Floor you will work from a perspective of integral reception, trying to address the needs of the beneficiaries at a global level (both at the level of basic needs, such as language learning, at the psychological level, of accompaniment and knowledge of the resources and functioning of the country, monitoring and support in its administrative situation, health, support, etc.).
The International Protection Floor joins the four projects that FISAT-Cartagena has and that make up the Salesian Social Platform of Cartagena.
FISAT Cartagena resources
The Alraso Integral Reception project for migrants is committed to its integration into the society of the host city.
It is aimed at migrants with support needs in their integration process at different levels: legal, administrative, linguistic, cultural, etc.
The Spanish Language and Culture Learning Project, Awalé, is committed to learning Spanish as a method to participate in equal conditions in Spanish society, around this it creates a family atmosphere, a relationship of proximity and trust that gives foot to a series of learnings that enrich all the people who participate in it.
Awalé is aimed at migrants, men and women, of different nationalities and ages.
We are a part, a program for socio-labor insertion that offers an individual plan, support during the process, and provides tools that add to that plan to bring the participants to the labor market.
The resources include active job search workshops, employment-oriented skills, digitalization, emotion work and training courses in response to market demand.
Shirika Educational Support Project, aimed at young people between 15 and 21 years that offers individualized support and tutorial action with educational centers, families and youth, socio-educational support, leisure and free time alternatives, social skills and psychological support.
