José López vindicates the figure of Isidoro Máiquez (20/01/2020)

This 2020 marks 200 years since the death of the Cartagena playwright Isidoro Máiquez, born in 1768 and died in Granada (1820).

So far, the local government has not ruled on such an important event, not knowing if it is planned to carry out a program of activities for its remembrance and homage.

It should be remembered that, since the 60s, the Isidoro Máiquez Chamber and Rehearsal Theater began the initiative to place a laurel wreath before the monument of the illustrious playwright located in San Francisco square as a recognition on the anniversary of his death , having kept this tradition to this day.

The municipal spokesman of MC Cartagena, José López, recalled that "in 2018, Castejón vetoed the celebration of the 'Year of Romanticism' when the 250th anniversary of the birth of the brilliant actor was completed," adding that "this prevented the continuation of the tribute to Máiquez that we started by nominating Hall A of the El Batel Auditorium with his name ".

In this context, he has advanced that "we will take an initiative to the next Plenary urging the local government to commemorate the anniversary of the death of Máiquez, as well as the recognition of his figure during this year 2020".

Likewise, the Cartagena spokesman has assured that "we will require that the obliged, and always postponed, transfer of the monument to the place for which it was conceived by its sculptor, José Ortells, in San Francisco square be included in the municipal budgets of 2020".
