The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has neutralized a marine phosphorus flare, with part of its active load, found in the municipality of Cartagena.

The action began when the Benemérita was alerted to the discovery of a cylindrical device, about 50 centimeters long and five in diameter, in the municipality of Cartagena.

Suspecting that it could be some type of device that could contain explosive material, civil guards of the Group of Specialists in Explosives Deactivation (GEDEX) moved to the headquarters of the Civil Guard of Mazarrón where it had been deposited.

The recommendations in this regard are: do not touch and do not move any abandoned object that may be suspected of being an explosive, incendiary or pyrotechnic device and immediately alert the Civil Guard.

The agents verified that it was a marine flare of those employed in the practice of maneuvers and military exercises for signaling or location, part of whose cargo, of white phosphorus, remained intact.

These gadgets, although they may have a harmless appearance, should be treated as hazardous material because if your incendiary charge has not been completely consumed at the time it was used, it can ignite when its contents dry after being removed. and kept out of the water for a while.

The Benemérita specialists moved the flare to a safety zone, away from homes and roads, where it was deactivated.
