The Third Beach Volleyball Circuit of the UPCT starts with the objective of seasonally adjusting and moving tourism through sport (15/01/2020)

The municipal complex of Playa Paraíso celebrates the III edition of the UPCT Voleyplaya Circuit, which will take place over the next 6 months, starting this Saturday, January 18 and whose main objective is to seasonally adjust this activity and move tourism through the sport.

The Councilor for Sports, Diego Ortega, has been in charge of presenting the tournament this Wednesday, January 15, in the press room of the City Hall, accompanied by the circuit director and coach of the Playa Paraíso Beach Volleyball School, Javier Meca, together with the Vice Chancellor of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Sergio Amat.

The Councilor for Sports, Diego Ortega, explained that “beach volley serves exceptionally to seasonalize sport and beach areas so that they are full of life, not only the days in which time accompanies and is more conducive, but also the rest of the year. â€He stressed that this sport has become the third most requested sport by university students," which shows the union between the university, the sport and society itself. "

On this occasion, the circuit will consist of six tests, which will be carried out during the next six months, from January to June.

A monthly test will be held, always coinciding with the third weekend of each month, for two days, on Saturdays with the female and male categories, and on Sundays with the mixed category.

As explained by the director of the circuit, Javier Meca, the mixed category more and more like the participants, "I think it is very important today, it is one of the values ​​that we intend to promote, that of equality."

The first test will be held on January 18 and 19 and the second on February 15 and 16 and will take place at the Beach Volleyball Center, located in the municipal complex of Playa Paraíso.

While the rest of the circuits will be played at Levante Beach in Cabo de Palos.

The third test will be on March 14 and 15, the fourth on April 18-19, the fifth on May 16-17 and the last and sixth test on June 20 and 21.

The Department of Sports is working with the UPCT and La Manga Sports Club, organizers of this project, in the installation of volleyball fields with fixed networks to encourage practice on the beaches of our coast, which enjoy sun and good weather throughout the year.

Thus, the two tracks of the Playa Paraíso complex are being adapted for the celebration of this tournament, in order to continue promoting it every year, being a regionally recognized championship and increasingly extensible to the nearby provinces.

High local participation is expected with all students of the Playa Paraíso Beach Volleyball School, as well as by athletes from Murcia, Alicante, Almeria and Madrid.

And with the participation of university students, who have been training at Playa Paraíso facilities for two years, and have included beach volleyball as the sport most requested by UPCT students, according to an internal university survey.
