Cartagena Think starts with the presentation of the book "Toxic Education" by Jon E. Illescas (15/01/2020)

The UNED auditorium hosts tomorrow, Thursday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m., the presentation of Jon E. Illescas 'Toxic Education' book, where the audiovisual contents that educate young people through the screens are often contrary to human rights.

In this way, the 2020 activities of the Department of Culture of the City Council of Cartagena, Cartagena Piensa, begin.

'Toxic education.

The empire of the screens and the dominant music in children and adolescents' is the complete title of the book by Jon E. Illescas, edited by the cultural magazine "El Viejo Topo", which will be presented by the head professor of the UPCT, José Antonio Martínez García and with the collaboration of the adult education group, Carmen Conde.

An act exclusively for people over 16 years.

Increasingly, children and adolescents are educated in front of the screens and less with their families and teachers.

The author of this book, Jon E. Illescas, teacher and researcher, analyzes how audiovisual content that “educates†young people through screens is often contrary to Human Rights.

How can progress be made in equality, respect, peace and civic coexistence if sexism, ordinariness, theft, exploitation, drug trafficking, aggression and violence are spread?

How to foster culture if ignorance is promoted?

Who is interested in maintaining this pedagogical toxicity?

Can we do something to change it?

How can you advance in equality when your fashion singer shows off his ex-girlfriend's wealth or gag in the trunk of a car in video clips seen by millions of teenagers?

How to value culture and education if you do not need to study to "succeed" and celebrities boast of not having read a book in your life?

How to foster respect, peace and civic coexistence if ordinariness, theft, exploitation, drug trafficking, aggression and violence are spread?
