Emilio Juan Rodríguez Méndez takes possession of the position of commissioner of the Local Police of Cartagena (15/01/2020)

This morning, the inauguration of the position of commissar of the Local Police of the City Council of Cartagena, by Juan Emilio Rodríguez Méndez, after passing the corresponding selective process was celebrated.

Juan Emilio Rodríguez Méndez, entered as agent of the Local Police of Cartagena in 1986, and in these more than 30 years of service he has gone through all the jobs and sections of the body, reaching the degree of commissioner after successfully passing the selective course of theoretical and practical training, approved by the Local Police Academy of the Region of Murcia.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, congratulated the new commissioner, who had already been serving as the head of the Local Police, given the lack of retirement commands that had been produced by the entry into force of the new legislation that gave the possibility of retiring to the police in advance.

Castejón has assured that “the society of Cartagena must be very clear that its security is in the best handsâ€, after highlighting the profile of the new commissioner.

The mayor has indicated that the municipal government plans a reorganization plan for the body and operation of the Cartagena Local Police, taking advantage of the entry of 54 new agents and 7 inspectors.

He also stressed that the priority of the Government is the fight against gender violence and create a police closer to the citizen, in order to respond to the real needs of the population.

The new commissioner has acknowledged that the Local Police is not going through its best moment due to early retirements that have reduced the workforce, but has been confident that "it is in a process of improvement", as is the incorporation of the 54 new agents, of which 10 have already been integrated from mobility of other municipalities, and 44 are in the academy, which will finish their training between May and June 2020. The Local Police of Cartagena has approved a staff of 364 agents, which with the new additions would be covered 304 seats, so it would take 60 more agents.

“I am aware of the great effort that the government team is making to provide the local police force with the necessary human and material resources to solve this complicated problem of the lack of troops,†said Juan Emilio Rodríguez, while urging to agents and commanders to put public service before citizens to their own personal interests.

In the inauguration, held in the reception hall of the City Hall, there have been numerous councilors of the Government and the Municipal Corporation, such as the vice mayor, Noelia Arroyo, the deputy mayor, Manuel Padín, and the councilors of Public Function and of Security, Esperanza Nieto and Juan Pedro Torralba, next to the councilmen of the Government Alejandra Gutiérrez, Irene Ruiz and Mercedes García, and of the opposition Gonzalo Abad and Jesús Jiménez Gallo.

Representatives from the judicial world have also met, such as the chief prosecutor of Cartagena;

the armed forces, such as the colonel of the Infantry School and the Artillery School;

Commissioner of the National Police in Cartagena: Commissioners of other local police in the region;

Commanders and agents of the Local Police and chiefs and officials of the rest of municipal services.
