Courses, workshops and multiple activities make up the Program for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities (10/01/2020)

The Department of Social Services has announced the program of activities that will be carried out by the elderly and people with disabilities, throughout this first half of 2020, from January to June, with a wide range of courses, workshops and events.

The presentation, this Friday, January 10, has been attended by the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, and the President of the Federation of Centers for the Elderly of Cartagena and Region, María Beteta.

A varied program that ranges from workshops, courses, outdoor activities, marches and hiking, celebrations, musical performances, to theatrical performances.

In addition, the councilor explained that this year, as a novelty, the Program of Activities for the Elderly releases a booklet format with more drawings indicative of each activity, in order to make it more comfortable and easy to read.

It can also be consulted in an easy-to-read format, on the City Council website or through the Office of Information for the Elderly.

For its part, the President of the Federation of Centers for the Elderly, María Beteta, has expressed her gratitude to the City Council of Cartagena for her collaboration in these activities.

From the Department of Social Services, Mercedes García, said that “with these activities, as well as with the services that we make available to these groups, such as the Home Help Service, Telecare, Family Respite and Home Delivery, we aim that these people remain physically, mentally and socially active, in short, what it is about is that they have a healthy aging. â€

WORKSHOPS

The programming of activities starts with the workshops taught in the La Milagrosa Building and in all the Associations of the Elderly.

The Computer Workshops stand out as it is a pending subject for the elderly.

New workshops are presented such as the Aromatherapy Workshop, the Feeling Good Workshop, Food School, Photographic Video-Assembly Workshop, Relaxation and Breathing Workshop, Wellness and Health and the Active Aging Workshop.

ACTIVITIES IN ASSOCIATIONS AND ELDERLY CLUBS

Various workshops will also be held in the Associations of the Elderly, such as carnival, theater, environment, health, crafts, folk traditions and memory training workshops and gerontogimnasia.

In total, 130 workshops will be taught on a variety of topics of interest to these groups.

In addition, other activities, such as Cultural Weeks, Movie Screenings, theatrical performances of the Elder Theater Groups of La Aljorra, La Puebla, Sta. Ana and Molinos Marfagones, etc., the Petanque Championship will be held in the Senior Clubs. , and endless activities that will culminate with the traditional Coexistence.

CELEBRATIONS

The Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes Garcia, stressed that this year they have expanded the space for the Valentine's Day, which is expected to attend more than 500 people.

The traditional Carnival Festival will also take place, with the election of the Carnival Queen of the Elders and the performances of the different club groups.

It is worth noting the II Edition of the Ballroom Dance Championship that was so successful in 2019, and that this year will take place at the El Batel Auditorium on June 12.

Not forgetting intergenerational activities.

Especially young and old are those who are going to have fun together, sharing activities such as theatrical performances, training in new technologies, excursions, etc.

In addition to celebrating April 29, the European Day of Intergenerational Solidarity.

TREKKING

The SendaSenior Association brings new routes within the socio-cultural hiking program.

On the one hand, they offer Healthy Walks, which consist of simple short-term themed routes, which will be made every Monday through the city and its surroundings, starting with the climb to Tentegorra.

And on the other hand, the Wednesday of March, in which different natural spaces of the Region of Murcia will be visited in a varied range of routes that will not be missing any Wednesday.

ACTIVITIES IN DAY CENTERS AND IN RESIDENCES

For those people who, due to their psychic and / or physical limitations, are in day centers and residences, there will be the Carnival Workshop, Easter Workshop, Pastry Workshops, Reading Workshop, Food Workshop, Choral and Rondallas Performances, Celebrations, intergenerational activities, etc.

All these activities will be carried out in the Daytime Stay Centers of Los Dolores and El Algar, and also in the Residences of Fuente Cubas, Virgen del Mar, Nueva Santa Ana, Anma and Orpea.

AGAINST ABUSE AND MALTRATE

As explained by Mercedes García, from the Department this year they are dedicated to the Training Days aimed at members of board of directors who will deal with the issue of abuse and abuse of those who live alone without family support, so that they can provide assistance

Therefore, on the World Day for raising awareness against Abuse and Abuse in old age, it will try to sensitize the population to detect such situations.

Bearing in mind that Cartagena is considered a “City friendly to the elderlyâ€, recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).

And finally, remember the Senior Volunteer Program, with the Accompaniment Program, aimed at people with problems of loneliness and dependence, the Trunk of Experience, in which each year they have more seniors giving workshops in different subjects in a way altruist and Visits to Residences and Day Centers.

This program of activities is now available on the City Council website and registrations can be collected and made in the Office of Care for the Elderly from the Department of Social Services located on the first floor of the Miraculous Building.
