The municipal government works to reach the best possible agreement with the unions (09/01/2020)

The Municipal Government of Cartagena has been willing to work with union representatives to reach the best possible working conditions agreement, after the economic impact of the agreement last year made it unfeasible for the municipal coffers.

This noon Government and union representatives have sat for the first time at the General Negotiating Table to try to reach an agreement.

Previously, municipal officials held an assembly with the unions in the courtyard of the San Miguel administrative building

The councilor of the Area of Government of the Treasury, Esperanza Nieto, recalled that the Government team, once the forecast of the 2020 budget has been made, and after having included all the points of the agreement on working conditions and the increase produced in the overtime, this experienced a large increase.

For this reason, the Government requested the relative reports to verify whether this increase in personnel costs could be assumed.

“The reports of the Municipal Intervention and the Economic Service, endorsed by the report to the Legal Counsel, told us that a totally unattainable and unfeasible situation for the City Council was generated.” “We have to be aware that the increase in network hours of the year 2019 generated a 75% increase and the total expenditure was 7 million euros affecting brigades, police and firefighters. ”

Nieto explained that if the working conditions schedule is applied as agreed and the current expense of network hours is maintained, this would mean an increase of 7 million more this year and 8 million in 2021, which could be generated a large deficit and even that the Ministry of Finance could intervene in the City of Cartagena.

“What we want is for this to be sustainable for all municipal staff and we want to reach the best possible agreement, but always with the unions.

We want to make an organization, a planning, a calendar of actions and a calendar of priorities that is acceptable to the Government and that does not significantly affect the workers. "

Nieto has concluded by pointing out that with all this "we want to give stability to the municipal staff and offer the best service to citizens."
