The City Council demands that Primary Care be reinforced to prevent the collapse of the Emergency Department (09/01/2020)

The City Council of Cartagena has demanded that the Ministry of Health reinforce Primary Care in Cartagena during the first two months of the year to avoid the collapse of hospital emergency services because many patients are forced to go to this department due to difficulties to be attended in their offices and health centers.

For this reason, the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes Garcia, has demanded more planning.

In this regard, he stressed that, if normally in January and February every year we suffer an influenza epidemic “it is unacceptable that the counseling does not reinforce Primary Care with more doctors.

In fact, in this two-month period it does not normally cover the casualties that occur, it authorizes vacations and days of free disposition to doctors, instead of reinforcing the service, as would be necessary ”.

This situation causes that the doctors who are working have to attend between 40 and 50% more patients than in normal time, generating waiting lists in health centers, which causes patients to choose to go to the emergency room hospital.
