Equality doubles care services for victims of gender violence (28/12/2019)

The Department of Equality, directed by David Martínez, continues to work to expand and strengthen the attention to victims of gender violence in Cartagena.

A little over a month ago, the new CAVAX Roaming service was presented for prevention and comprehensive care for victims of sexual assault and / or abuse, and now the launch of a second shelter is announced, with which they will double the number of women to whom this temporary service is provided.

In this regard, this week the Cartagena City Council has obtained a direct grant of 80,000 euros from the Autonomous Community for the operation of a new residential resource aimed at women victims of gender violence, based on the Royal Decree-Law 9/2018, of August 3, of Urgent Measures for the development of the State Pact against gender violence.

Thanks to this subsidy, the municipal government fulfills another of the objectives set out in the programmatic agreement, specifically point 61.

"For us this is a very important step because it will mean doubling literally the attention we give to women victims of the horror of sexist violence, who are forced to stay in these homes because their lives or those of their children are in danger", the councilor has affirmed.

In fact, "throughout this year they have gone through the only shelter with which, until now, the municipality had a total of 7 women."

But in addition, there has been a green light for another aid, this of 19,500 euros, which should be used to intensify municipal campaigns for prevention and awareness against any form of violence against women and / or aimed at promoting real equality between men and women .

It should be remembered that, in the last two years, the Department has increased the staff and hours of attention of the Center for Specialized Care for Victims of Gender Violence (CAVI), which currently has 2 social workers, 2 psychologists, 3 educators social and 1 full-time legal advisor and that, during 2019, has carried out more than 1,383 actions.
