The truck driver produced results of 1.07 and 1.05 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air, the maximum being 0.15 mg / l for professional drivers

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, in collaboration with officials of the port authority, has arrested a truck driver who was driving a 40-ton articulated vehicle on the premises of the port of Cartagena exceeding seven times the maximum rate of alcohol established to drive this type of vehicles

The events took place when officials of the Cartagena port authority observed irregular driving in a large tonnage vehicle that circulated through the Escombreras-Cartagena Dock site and alerted the Traffic Sector, which displaced a patrol car from there. Motorists of the Cartagena Detachment who appreciated at this time that their driver was not in the right conditions to drive, possibly as a result of the intake of alcoholic beverages.

For this reason, the male driver, of Ukrainian nationality and 47 years old, was subjected to the mandatory breathalyzer tests in which he gave a positive result of 1.07 and 1.05 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air, seven times the rate maximum allowed in the case of professional drivers is 0.15 mg / liter.

Under these circumstances, the truck driver, from Germany, although he had previously stopped this fact at the Cabezo Beaza industrial estate in Cartagena and was preparing to load wood on the dock to transport it back to Germany, has been arrested as alleged author of offense of driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages, by far exceeding the established rates, being made available to the Court of Instruction of Cartagena, for the holding of the corresponding rapid trial, the vehicle being immobilized in the port's cargo terminal.

The offense of driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages, with rates higher than 0.60 milligrams / liter, is included in article 379 of the Criminal Code and can be punished alternately with prison sentences of 3 to 6 months, fine of 6 12 months, or work for the benefit of the community from 31 to 90 days and in any case with deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for more than 1 and up to 4 years.

The Civil Guard continues to reiterate its message to those drivers who recklessly and recklessly, despite the campaigns and warnings of the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT), drive after drinking or taking drugs, remembering that, without prejudice to the Systematic performance of ordinary or special preventive controls, the mandatory alcohol and drug tests will be practiced on all drivers who are reported for the commission of infractions, involvement in accidents or those in which their consumption is detected in the course of other activities of surveillance and inspection carried out.

These actions are intended to raise awareness among citizens of the incompatibility of these substances with driving, given the decline in reflexes and capabilities that control vehicles, and thus ensure road safety on our roads, avoiding this form, the production of traffic accidents and the serious consequences, which as in this case could have resulted, appealing to the use of collective means of transport or alternative formulas for these displacements that are not to get behind the wheel in these conditions, especially by of the youngest drivers.

On the other hand, the Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia wants to appeal to the civic conscience of the population or other public entities, as in this case, to notify the telephone 062 (Civil Guard) or 112 (Emergencies) or directly to the patrols in service when they encounter anomalous situations or irregular maneuvers that lead to think that the drivers do it under the influence of drugs or alcohol, in order to be able to adopt the appropriate police measures so that these vehicles are intercepted and checked if their Drivers are in the right conditions to drive with safety guarantees, avoiding the consequent risk.

This is the fifth case of drivers of large and tonnage vehicles intended for the transport of goods intercepted by the Traffic Association of the Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia during the year 2019, by driving under the influence of alcohol, since previously The following assumption was recorded:
