´Give life´ in the XII Blood Donation Marathon (13/12/2019)

On the occasion of the Christmas holidays, Cadena SER and the Regional Hemodonation Center organize the already traditional Blood Marathon next to the City Hall of Cartagena under the slogan 'You are one step away from saving three lives' next Thursday, December 19 , which this year celebrates its twelfth edition, which will also carry out the retransmission of the usual programming of Cadena SER throughout the day.

It was this Friday, December 13, when the activity was presented by the first deputy mayor and mayor of the Health Area, Manuel Padn, together with the director of the SER Chain in Cartagena, Antonio Rosa, and the person in charge of communication Regional Hemodonation Center, Toi Gmez.

"Donating requires just ten minutes and with this marathon it is intended to bring citizens the possibility of doing so," Padn said during the presentation, "overcoming the fear of needles we contribute to other people enjoying something as fundamental as the lifetime".

It also highlights the importance of the slogan of this campaign, since a single donation can help up to three different people who need it.

The schedule will be from 09:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the morning and from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on the ground floor of the City Hall, and all persons between 18 and 65 years of age weighing more than 50 kg can contribute to the cause by providing the DNI.

All participants will be presented with a Christmas pot on the occasion of the holidays and will enter the draw of t-shirts of FC Cartagena and Jimbee Futsal, and may also attend for free if they wish to the match between FC Cartagena and the Yeclano Deportivo of December 21.

"Giving life is the best gift that can be given during these holidays," says the director of the SER, "it was in Cartagena where the SER began to carry out this type of initiatives that have subsequently been extended to others populations and with this day next Thursday they intend to cover the needs of blood and blood products in the hospitals of the Region of the Christmas period, in which the needs increase due to accidents on the roads ”.

When the marathon started in 2008, a total of 270 effective donations were obtained from the more than 300 people who came to donate, a figure that has been maintained for the rest of the editions and is expected to be overcome this year with the help of all citizenship.

Blood is necessary in daily risk situations such as births, accidents, surgical interventions or oncological diseases.

This is why citizen collaboration is so important, since blood can be preserved for a limited period of time, and donations are needed regularly.

Men can donate up to four times a year, while women three.

PERMANENT POINT OF HEMODONATION IN CARTAGENA

“It takes between 250 and 300 blood donations a day to meet the demand in our hospitals,” says Toi Gmez, who also remembers that during these campaigns anyone who wants it can donate marrow.

In addition to these special campaigns, Cartagena has a permanent point for blood donations that is located in the Rosell Hospital outpatient which is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8.30am to 2pm and Wednesday from 3pm to 9pm, but also the second Saturdays of each month.
