The Navantia Chair rewards students of the Machine Learning UPCT Association for its voice assistant for ships "Lezo" (11/12/2019)

A voice assistant named Lezo, as the historical admiral of the Spanish Navy, and trained by artificial intelligence has been the winning proposal of the challenge for entrepreneurs that the Isaac Peral-Navantia Chair launched to the students of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) and that has been delivered today.

The students José Antono Toral López and Francisco Zamora López, members of the incipient university association Machine Learning UPCT, have explained their project during the third edition of the conference of the chair, which continues tomorrow with an exhibition of the research lines of the UPCT which may be of interest to Navantia.

The public shipyard company has been interested in the development proposed by the UPCT students and will analyze it to decide the feasibility of its implementation in the ships it builds.

The neural network of the voice assistant 'Lezo' is designed to be able to identify the different users of the ship and their different permits to give instructions to the ship's equipment.

"It would be activated with the 'Hey Lezo' command and on the control screen you could see the instructions that each user has given," Francisco Zamora has detailed.

"Artificial intelligence learns how humans and their training is not as tedious as you think," said his partner José Antonio Toral, a fellow of the Konery chair at UPCT.

The objective of the students is to conclude the creation of the Machine Learning association after the next exam period and begin to carry out dissemination and training activities in artificial intelligence technologies.

During the first part of the day today several UPCT students have described their entrepreneurial experiences.

The following spoke: Adrián García (IDEA Engineering), Gaspar Pedreño (TallerBox), José David Trapero (Penberic) and Constantino Martínez (FSO).
