More than twenty groups of Cartagena meet to establish actions that improve the mobility of the city (27/11/2019)

This Wednesday, November 27, more than twenty groups in the municipality of Cartagena have set up the Local Mobility Board.

This first meeting intends to collect the proposals of the Cartagena civil society in this matter so that they begin to be implemented in early 2020. The Councilor for Citizen Security, Public Road and Festivities of Cartagena, Juan Pedro Torralba, has chaired the Mobility Board.

The meeting has taken place in the Multipurpose Room of the San Miguel Administrative Building.

The Councilor for Infrastructure, Services and Coastline María Casajús, the mayor of Heritage and Contracting María Amoraga and the mayor delegate of Sustainable City and European Projects Cristina Mora have been representing the Municipal Government.

The councilors of the Municipal Corporation Jesús Giménez, Aurelia García and Gonzalo Abad have also attended the meeting.

Likewise, representatives of groups such as ONCE or academic institutions such as the Polytechnic University of Cartagena have attended.

In the first meeting of the Mobility Bureau, the progress being made in the chair of the City Council of Cartagena - UPCT on sustainable urban mobility, pedestrians and the intermodality of means of transport in the city have been seen.

Suggestions have also been made to improve the quality of life of people with visual disabilities in Cartagena.

The director of the ONCE in the city, Miguel Paraíso, has contributed his ideas that could benefit his judgment in this group when it comes to walking on public roads.

The Councilor for Public Safety, Public Road and Festivities of Cartagena, Juan Pedro Torralba, has indicated as one of the priority aspects of the measures to reconcile traffic with the movement of pedestrians on public roads.

In addition, we want to encourage the use of public transport for the inhabitants of neighborhoods and councils of the municipality who want to move to the city.

“We are already working with the associations in the West Zone shuttle that we put in Marfagones Mills.

It is one of the things we want to promote in different areas, so that people can go down to the city without using the vehicle. â€

As for the pedestrianization of urban areas, the mayor of the Public Road of Cartagena states that he will sit down to talk with the hoteliers and merchants of the city to see what are the best options to carry out this plan.

Councilman Juan Pedro Torralba affirms that the intention of the Municipal Government is to implement the first measures agreed upon at the Mobility Board in early 2020. Before that, a deadline will be left for local groups to send their suggestions to the Department of Public Safety, Public Roads and Celebrations of Cartagena.

AUTOMATIC BOLARDS

The Department of Public Safety and Public Road has announced that automatic bollards will be installed in the streets of Santa Florentina, Sagasta and Plaza Castellini.

The idea of ​​replacing the planters, with the consensus of the hoteliers, merchants and taxi drivers of the city, in order to guarantee greater safety of the pedestrians that circulate through the center of Cartagena.

SECURITY CAMERAS

The mayor of Public Safety and Public Road, Juan Pedro Torralba, said that they want to install security cameras for greater traffic surveillance in the municipality.

Torralba has denied that the purpose is to put fines.

“It is a control so that the base of the Local Police can have the traffic controlled.

We believe it is positive that we have controlled areas where there is a lot of traffic and to be able to provide a quick solution â€in case of an accident.

They have already been installed in Los Dolores and their installation is being studied in Los Nietos and Los Urrutias.

According to the Councilor for Public Safety, this measure is recommended by the National Police and Civil Guard.
