Cartagena is running as the headquarters of the Bank of Native Species of the Mar Menor (22/11/2019)

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, participated this morning, November 22, in the Inter-Administrative Forum of the Mar Menor, together with the General Director of Water of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Manuel Menéndez, the Government Delegate, Francisco Jiménez, the water commissioner of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation, Francisco Javier García, the Minister of the Environment, Antonio Luengo, as well as the mayors of Los Alcázares, Mario Cervera and San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the Councilor for the Environment from San Javier.

Antonio Marcelo Martínez.

During the meeting, the mayor has proposed the municipality of Cartagena as the headquarters of the Bank of Native Species of the Mar Menor that the regional government plans to build.

“We have begun to study different locations within the municipality with the intention of sending them, as soon as possible, the detailed proposals of the possible locations.

What better place to house it than Cartagena, which meets all the environmental parameters, â€he said.

In another order of things, the City Council of Cartagena has assessed very positively the fact that the General Director of Water of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Manuel Menéndez Prieto, has been willing to consider a modification of point 5 of the Discharge Plan 0, so that the Drainage Network, which collects the waters of all the boulevards before they reach the Mar Menor, does the same with the waters of the basements of the houses that also flow into the lagoon.

Similarly, the mayor has pledged to study the possibility of preventing more basements from being built in the towns of the Mar Menor in the future.

The first mayor has reiterated to the Minister of the Environment, Antonio Luengo, the main proposals that from the City Council have been submitted to the Autonomous Community so that they can be included in the new Law of Protection of the Mar Menor.

“I have asked for speed in the elaboration of this new norm, which includes the urban moratorium and, above all, clarity in the wording so that it is not susceptible to double interpretations of its scope of actionâ€.
