The Piedad portapasos present the VII National Saetas Contest Cartagena 2020 (18/11/2019)

The National Saetas Contest already has a poster for its seventh edition, whose authorship falls back to the popular Cartagena painter Pedro Diego Pérez Casanova.

The Agrupa Vicenta de La Unión Mine was the emblematic place where the Agrupación de Portapasos de la Santísima Virgen de la Piedad kicked off the 2020 contest.

An entire auditorium did not want to miss the presentation, which was attended by representatives of the world of culture and politics of the Region, such as the first lieutenant of Mayor of La Unión, Elena José Lozano;

the second lieutenant of Mayor of Cartagena, Manuel Padín;

the Councilor for the Area of ​​Culture of Cartagena, David Noguera;

the Councilor for Tourism of Cartagena, Cristina Pérez;

the Elder Brother of the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesús Nazareno, Francisco Pagán;

and the president of the Agrupación de la Virgen de la Piedad, José Jesús Guillén.

Guillén highlighted "the honor of starting this edition inside a mine, 80 meters deep, at the origin of the song", and thanked the generosity of the City Council of La Unión to transfer this emblematic space.

Likewise, he recognized and valued the great collaboration of the Cartagena painter, who "year after year, and in an altruistic way, makes the poster of our contest, being able to convey the emotion of a sung prayer, of a bolt on a canvas".

Before saying goodbye, the president of the piers of La Piedad wanted to have a few words of thanks for "a contest where many people intervene, such as the Agrupación de Portapasos de la Stma. Virgen de La Piedad, the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Nazareno (Marrajos ), the City Council of Cartagena, the Department of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Culture of the Region of Murcia, the Catholic University San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), the Folk Group "City of Cartagena" of La Palma, and the Groups of Our Father Jesus Nazareno, Stma. Virgen de la Piedad, Portapasos de la Stma, Virgen Dolorosa, de la Verónica and Santa Faz de Cristo and Stma Virgen de la Soledad, all with the support of the Cante de las Minas Foundation and the Town Hall of La Unión, as well as the Port Authority of Cartagena and Hidrogea "

For his part, the Elder Brother of the Marraja Brotherhood, Francisco Pagán, highlighted the great work being done by the Grouping of the Holders of the Blessed Virgin of La Piedad to consolidate this contest of bolts of Cartagena as a national reference.

Pagán finished his speech remembering that "we must not lose the essence of the Saeta: bitterness, feeling and pain. We have to reach the Soul."

Elena Lozano, on behalf of the City Council of La Unión, showed the importance of making the presentation of this competition of bolts inside a mine.

"In the mine, with the pain and suffering of the miners, these flamenco songs were born."

Similarly, he conveyed to all attendees the thanks of La Unión for celebrating, for the second consecutive year, the presentation of this event in the municipality.

The event also featured the interventions of Manuel Padín, second deputy mayor and David Martínez, councilor of the Culture Area of ​​the City of Cartagena.

The presentation had its finishing touch with the performances of the local singer, Manuel Garnés García, accompanied by Pablo Barrionuevo on guitar.

The event ended with the singing of a saeta by Rocio Serrano "La Serrano", winner of the previous edition of the National Saetas Contest of Cartagena, thrilling the audience

Until January 28, the deadline to register for the contest will be open, the bases of which are already available on the contest website and on its social networks.

It will be Friday 7 and Saturday 8 February when the semifinals are held at the Casa del Folklore in La Palma.

The Church of Santa María de Gracia will once again witness the final on Saturday, March 21.

The National Saetas de Cartagena Contest is endowed with the following awards:

FIRST PRIZE, endowed with 2,100 Euros and Trophy made by the sculptor D. Fernando Sáenz Elorrieta.

SECOND PRIZE, endowed with 1,050 Euros and Trophy of the Agrupación Nuestra Padre Jesús Nazareno.

THIRD PRIZE, endowed with 750 Euros and Image of the Pieta de las Agrupación de la Stma.

Virgin of Piety.

ACCÉSIT, endowed with 450 Euros and image of the Dolorosa Virgin of the Grouping of the Dolorosa Virgin.
