Require mandatory education in LGTBI diversity (03/11/2019)

Through the "They have the right to know" campaign, GALACTYCO Collective together with FELGTB, require the Ministry of Education to withdraw the order to start the course that establishes the obligation for families to give their consent for students to attend LGTBI diversity training

The GALACTYCO Collective, together with the State Federation of Lesbians, Gais, Trans and Bisexuals (FELGTB) remind the Ministry of Education, that, according to current legislation, schools throughout the state have the obligation to offer education in diversity Affective-sexual, family and gender without the prior consent of families.

LGTBI entities remember that the Organic Law for the Improvement of Education (LOMCE), the Law on Children and Adolescents of 2015, the Law on Sexual and Reproductive Health and the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy, the Law on the Promotion of Education and the Culture of Peace, the Organic Law of Education and even the Spanish Constitution itself or the Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified by Spain, establish the obligation for public authorities to adopt educational measures to combat discrimination and violence suffered childhood and adolescence, in addition to guaranteeing the full development of personality and training in values.

Likewise, Decrees 220/2015, of September 2 and 198/2014, of September 5, which establishes the curriculum of Secondary and Primary Education in the Autonomous Community of Murcia, make it clear that complementary activities and Curricula will be mandatory, never at the expense of arbitrary opinions of families.

Thus, they declare that the Ministry of Education has, therefore, the obligation to ensure that all students, regardless of the opinion of their families, receive training in LGTBI diversity, as well as to protect minors from possible family or family violence. the denial of access to information motivated by LGTBIfobia.

And, as they state, requesting the consent of families to choose the education the student receives or not contravenes the best interests of the child, present in the Spanish legal system.

For this reason, the GALACTYCO Collective, asks the Ministry of Education of the Region of Murcia to immediately withdraw the order to start the course that illegally establishes the obligation for families to give their consent for students Receive information on LGTBI diversity.

This demand is part of the "They have the right to know" campaign, an initiative of the FELGTB to which entities from different Autonomous Communities have joined to simultaneously demand their respective Councils to fulfill their obligation to guarantee a correct education in values of equality

In addition, it is a campaign that aims to offer a tool to citizens to claim their rights in this regard so they invite the population to join and send their own letters to the Ministry with this demand.

According to Alberto Alba, President of the GALACTYCO Collective "the intention of this action is to remind the public authorities of their obligation to comply with and defend the current legislation on education and dispel any doubts that may arise as a result of sensational campaigns promoted by organizations and political parties that do not share constitutional values, no matter how much they use them by flag to talk about other issues. "

In this sense, Alberto Alba recalls that "Education is a right of minors, not a privilege of families who agree that their minors are trained in Equality. All students have the right to receive appropriate education in a transversal way to value what defends our Constitution and our entire legislative body, and that includes information on affective-sexual, gender and family diversity. "

And, according to the Vice President of Collective GALACTYCO, Mar Tornero, the application of a "parental PIN" that the extreme right has established in our Community and that some related groups are promoting in different parts of the Spanish geography "opens the door to The education system also recognizes as valid other discriminatory ideas such as racism or misogyny, or other currents of thought based on moral or religious beliefs contrary to the rights and freedoms that as a society we must respect and defend, and that may even put at risk the health of minors, such as beliefs contrary to vaccination, the prohibition of donating blood, or the mandate of submission of women. "

In addition, Alberto Alba, who in addition to an activist for the rights of the LGTBI group is responsible and professional of Education, explains that the use of the term parental PIN aims to generate a false sense of protection for families.

Thus, he adds that "the real parental PIN protects children from inappropriate content when surfing the Internet alone. However, this badly called" parental PIN "is nothing more than an attempt at censorship against democratic institutions that violate rights of minors and teachers and encourages non-compliance with the laws ".

"Students do not need a parental PIN for the school since the set of experts in education and childhood that makes up the educational community ensures both their welfare in the school environment, as well as the convenience of the content they study at each age."

Therefore, it encourages the educational community of the Region of Murcia to comply with the laws that regulate education, in the face of an arbitrary and illegal decision of the Ministry of Education, as well as to demand that they withdraw instructions that clearly commit Its good work.
