The "Repsol Forest" in Cerro de los Moros continues to grow with the planting of 1,000 new species (29/10/2019)

The activity is part of the international week of Repsol volunteering, which includes other activities such as coast cleaning and a food collection campaign.

One hundred workers from the Cartagena refinery and their families, along with other volunteers have been involved in the different projects.

The Cartagena refinery and Repsol Foundation have organized different activities to celebrate the international volunteer week.

This weekend, a hundred people have participated in the third day of reforestation of the 'Repsol Forest' in the Cerro de los Moros.

In collaboration with the Creect association, workers from the Cartagena refinery along with their families, members of other groups and volunteers have planted more than 1,000 native species such as the Cartagena cypress, the lentisk, the acebuche, the cornical or the palm heart.

The works have been complemented with the replacement of marras and the creation of plant barriers on the hill to prevent erosion.

The objective of this project is to convert Cerro de los Moros into a new green area with more than 60 different species for the enjoyment of Cartagena and visitors.

The 'Repsol Forest' project started three years ago.

During this period, several interventions have been carried out that have allowed nearly 2,000 native trees of thirty different species to grow on its slopes.

One of the plants that has grown on the Cerro de los Moros is the 'Cistus Heterophillus', known as Jara de Cartagena;

an endemic species that only lives in the coastal mountains around the trimester and is in danger of extinction.

Coast cleaning

In collaboration with the ACR and Rivemar, volunteers from the Cartagena refinery have made a dive in the surroundings of Cabo de Palos contributing to the cleanliness of the seabed and the coast.

To this action must be added the campaign of food collection that is being carried out in the refinery and whose collection will be delivered to the food bank of Cartagena.

With these activities, Repsol and its Foundation join the challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and show their commitment to the environment by promoting initiatives focused on environmental education and fostering social awareness about the care of the natural environment.
