The Association of Parents of Children with Hearing Impairment (APANDA) was born on November 27, 1979 at the request of a group of parents led by the strong need to solve their children's hearing impairment.

This group of parents, led by Dr. Luis A. Cervantes, father of a child with profound deafness, organized, associated and responsible for carrying out the ambitious project of APANDA.

The objective of this association is the defense of the global rights and interests of people with hearing disabilities and their families, improving the quality of life of these people and their families, and integrating them into a more informed and prepared society.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, congratulated this association for its 40th anniversary, highlighting the union and the joint struggle of fathers and mothers for a common good: their children.

APANDA is a pioneer in the development and implementation of computer programs for speech therapy treatment and in the application of technical and pedagogical advances against hearing impairment.

In addition, the association participates in events and forums in which aspects related to the world of deafness are discussed, organize dissemination and prevention campaigns for hearing impairment or disseminate existing scientific and technical advances for the treatment of hearing impairment.

One of the activities organized by the association was the informative day last Saturday, where different presentations were made on the baby's hearing development and its assessment, the diagnosis and treatment of unisensory hearing loss (PAU), the importance of working phonological skills in children with deafness and the value of music in the auditory development of the child with deafness.

The mayor affirmed that "the lack of communication is considered one of the most terrible solitudes and thanks to the capacity of formation, information and innovation of the army, formed by the parents of APANDA, they have been able to face them".

The day was closed by the president of FIAPAS, José Luis Aedo.
