The dock of the Port of Cartagena will host the 200 participants of the XXV Regatta ´Navegante Juan Fernández´ (17/10/2019)

This weekend begins the racing season, which will last until June, with the already traditional 'Navegante Juan Fernández' Regatta, which this year celebrates its XXV edition, organized by the Real Club de Regattas de Cartagena next to the Department of Sports .

There will be more than 200 sailors in a total of 45 boats that meet at the dock of the Port of Cartagena in this competition that has been presented this Thursday, October 17, in the press room 'José Albaladejo Ros' of the Palace Consistorial of the hand of the vice mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, next to the president of the RCRC, José García-Bravo, and the technical director of the club, Eduardo Gallego.

The sporting event will begin on Saturday 19 and until Sunday 20, with two regattas in the waters of the bay of Cartagena, having its departure from the same inner dock if the cruise traffic and the wind would allow it.

On Saturday the competition will be two windward-leeward races of technical characteristics, while Sunday will be coastal, more traditional with the participation of leading boats and even family boats.

It is positioned as the most emblematic sailing cruise regatta of the RCRC in honor of the famous 16th-century Cartagena navigator, Juan Fernández, also coinciding with the celebration this year of the V Centenary of the First Tour of the World of Magellan and Elcano.

This was told by the deputy mayor during the presentation, who highlighted the important role that the Cartagena played in the expedition with her discoveries such as Australia or New Zealand, “there is no better tribute than navigating Cartagena as he honors his memory every year in the sea".

It will host boats throughout the Region of Murcia, as well as the Valencian Community with clubs and marinas in Águilas, Lo Pagán, San Pedro, La Ribera, Portmán, Torrevieja, Alicante and Cartagena.

"The high level of boats make it one of the milestones of the Mediterranean sail," says the president of the club, with ships like 'El Carmen', winner of the Copa del Rey this year, or the 'Nemos', with very good times in regattas of the first order, "this competition makes Cartagena one of the benchmarks of sailing."

On Sunday, trophies will be awarded to the top three classified in each of the ORC categories.

In addition, the Naval History Chair will award a Commemorative Trophy for the V Centenary of the First Tour of the World of Magellan and Elcano.

With this regatta, the RCRC inaugurates its sailing cruise season which, uninterruptedly, will last until June 2020, when the Cartagena-Ibiza regatta takes place as a final touch.

This wide capacity of convocation places Cartagena at the head of the regional Candle and in an outstanding position in the national panorama.
