MC agrees to the active participation in the mobilizations planned to demand solutions in the Mar Menor (17/10/2019)

Yesterday took place in a crowded Assembly Hall of the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country, the holding of the Information Assembly of MC Cartagena, focused this time on the current situation of the Mar Menor.

During the meeting, and after the intervention of the Secretary General of the Cartagena formation, José López, the Assembly expressed its commitment to the planned mobilizations to demand immediate solutions to the agonizing state of the Mar Menor.

López announced that MC will attend this afternoon the demonstration that will travel the streets of the city of Murcia, from the Palace of San Esteban to the Government Delegation, launching an SOS for the Mar Menor and the Campo de Cartagena.

The Secretary General of Cartagena said yesterday that "we cannot leave aside our region. We have the obligation to accompany our neighbors of Los Alcázares and Torre-Pacheco."

It was also announced that MC has chartered a bus for the demonstration this afternoon.

Likewise, MC will actively join the demonstration organized by the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Cartagena and Comarca, which will take place in Cartagena on the 30th of this month, under the motto 'SOS Mar Menor'.

MC's work for the Mar Menor during the Cartagener biennium

Similarly, José López explained to the attendees some of the efforts made by MC during the Cartagena Mayor's Office (2015-2017) in relation to the Mar Menor, highlighting the contrast between the commitment of this training in the defense of this unique ecosystem and the inaction of the national parties of the different administrations.

Thus, the secretary general of MC recalled, among others, the following actions:

"We sent to the Prosecutor's Office a dossier on the pending changes in the terraces of the Mar Menor, two judicial proceedings being found. This information has served to impute dozens of public offices.

"We demand infrastructure that mitigates the runoff to the Mar Menor, which were built in the southern area of the Mar Menor, but which in the DANA episode proved useless because the regional government did not project them correctly."

"We achieved the removal of the breakwaters of Los Urrutias, a measure demanded by scientists and neighbors."

"We obliged with complaints and pressures that measures be promoted to improve, as far as possible, the state of the Mar Menor in the years 2017 and 2018", adding that it is "an insufficient and lost improvement in the summer of 2019 for the complacency of the different administrations that, in the election year, and in order not to harm their harvest of votes, left their obligations and caused the worsening of the Mar Menor, which has been increased by the effects of the cold drop. "

"We legalized the emissary of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) Mar Menor Sur, in Cabo de Palos, and we began to study its impact on the environment, conducting inspection and repairs, as it was also broken by several sites."

"We restricted access to Calblanque by private vehicle and put a deterrent car park in Los Belones," clarifying that this helped to "preserve this park, the only environment in the area that still does not suffer irreversibly human action."

"We submit allegations to the Comprehensive Management Plan of the Mar Menor and require from the Municipal Plenary concrete measures that were not addressed" (we accompany the PDF of the Plenary and Government Board agreements chaired by José López).

"We even detected that works were being done without the mandatory reports of the Environment by the Ministry of Agriculture, such as the pipeline from Los Urrutias to the WWTP of Cabo de Palos (known as the pipeline to nowhere) and that remains imputed to Adela Martínez Cachá and other senior officials for trying to deceive society with a work without permits and meaningless that meant more than 1.5 million euros of investment. "

"All these efforts are carried out in two years, coming from nowhere and with the enemy at home and outside it," concluded the Cartagenerist leader.

Other issues

Finally, López toured some of the most important issues of the municipality today as the "bad situation" in relation to the cleaning of the municipality or the efforts made with neighborhood groups to promote the celebration of an extraordinary plenary session on the Pollution problem in our municipality.
