The territorial manager of the Ministry of Justice in the Region of Murcia, Julia García, accompanied by an architect, has made a visit this morning to the facilities of the old Peninsular Hotel to study its viability as a provisional headquarters for new courts.
The general director of Urban Planning, Ángeles López, together with several municipal technicians of the council, has accompanied the ministerial delegation to know the state of the building, as well as its accesses.
“Cartagena needs a City of Justice as soon as possible, but in the meantime from the city council of Cartagena we have made this space available to the Ministry so that the new courts that the judicial party of Cartagena needs and that both lawyers and judges have demanded , as well as civil society, ”said the mayor of Cartagena and head of the Urban Planning Area, Ana Belén Castejón.
This building, located on Cuatro Santos street, was acquired by the Consistory in 2016 and has 920 square meters spread over 5 floors.
The mayor has said that this infrastructure is the most appropriate for its location, in the center of the city, and for its proximity to other administrative buildings, and that in addition to solving the serious problem of space in the judicial field would help revitalize the streets of the old town of Cartagena.
The municipality needs the construction of the City of Justice as soon as possible since the current facilities are not only insufficient but have become obsolete.
For this reason, from the City Council negotiations were initiated with the Ministries of Justice and Defense so that the plot that currently houses the Subsistence Factory of the Navy is used for this use.
“The space we propose is enough to house the two courts of First Instance that Cartagena needs and one of the Mercantile, as requested by the members of the judicial party.
I trust that soon we will have good news from the Ministry.
In the case of Justice, that they accept this assignment and that they will soon begin the necessary works, and in the case of Defense, that the negotiations continue to advance so that their plot goes to municipal and we can transfer it to Justice, ”said Castejón.
