Midwives, pediatricians, health workers and anthropologists meet in Cartagena for the XVI National Congress of Breastfeeding (04/10/2019)

This Friday, October 4, began the XVI edition of the National Congress of Breastfeeding instinctive and conscious, which this year is based at the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center in Cartagena, where a total of 15 experts from all over the country will pass.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has attended the inauguration of these conferences together with the Councilor for Heritage and Recruitment, María Amoraga, which aims to address the benefits of breastfeeding for both mothers and newborns , organized by the Federation of Pro-Breastfeeding Support Groups of Spain (FEDELMA).

Castejón has been accompanied at the opening ceremony by Eulalia Torras, president of FEDELMA, Laura Baraja, president of the organizing committee, and M. Carmen Carmen, medical director of the Cartagena Health Area.

During the two-day celebration, the congress will feature professionals such as Dr. Ricardo García de León, promoter of the so-called Skin-to-Skin Law passed unanimously in the Regional Assembly in November last year alongside distinguished midwives, pediatricians, health workers and anthropologists from Spain.

Following the objective of consolidating and strengthening health strategies to favor breastfeeding rates and thus prevent the health of mothers and babies, together with the advantages offered by this practice, the congress has been inaugurated with the Carlos Gómez conference on the ' Use and abuse of weight charts'.
