The mayor offers the Peninsular Hotel to the Ministry of Justice while the City of Justice is not being built (03/10/2019)

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, met today with the Government delegate, Francisco Jiménez, who has notified that she has offered to the Ministry of Justice of the Peninsular Hotel for the installation of two new courts in the municipality;

that it considers it necessary that the Emergency Decree for aid to those affected by the September DANA be extended;

and that an urgent Action Plan be launched in the Mar Menor.

The mayor has sent this week a letter to the Minister of Justice offering the Hotel Peninsular, which is a municipal property, located in the center of Cartagena and with a useful area of 966 square meters, to install two new courts there ;

one of the Mercantile and another of First Instance.

“We ask Defense to use the facilities of the former Military Togado Court but they have told us that their assignment is not possible.

For this reason we have offered a municipal building, in which the two new courts demanded by society can be installed while the necessary City of Justice is not being built, ”said Castejón.

The Secretary of State for Justice informed the City Council that only 348 square meters were required for the installation of a Civil Court, so the Peninsular Hotel could accommodate the two courts that are sued without any problem.

On the other hand, the mayor has asked the Government delegate that the Emergency Decree by the September DANA be extended.

“We have suffered numerous damages that force neighbors, businessmen and Town Halls to face great expenses to return to normal and recover everything lost.

We need 100% government assistance, ”said Castejón, after remembering that he has also asked for greater involvement from the Autonomous Community.

Mar Menor

The mayor has also requested the Government delegate to set up an Urgent Action Plan for the Mar Menor.

“The Zero Discharge Plan must be executed 100%;

surveillance should be increased in the ramblas to avoid any type of spillage, and sludge and dry must be removed with a calendar established based on the recommendations of the Scientific Committee that advises that these works be carried out before spring, therefore, not They can be delayed in their planning.

We have the Mar Menor with assisted breathing and we must respond today, not tomorrow, ”he said.

During the meeting, which was held at the Government Delegation, the mayor also reviewed the current situation of the agreements for the works of the Amphitheater and the Old Cathedral, as well as the promenades of Los Urrutias and Los Nietos, and for rail infrastructure.

"The commitment of the Government of Spain to Cartagena remains absolute and I am convinced that in a very short period of time the fruits of the agreements we reached last legislature will continue to be seen, as they are already being seen in railway matters," Castejón concluded .
