A student of the Master in Renewable Energies is rewarded for developing a photovoltaic monitoring system (28/09/2019)

The Spanish Association of Project Management and Engineering (AEIPro) has awarded at its last international congress, held in Malaga, to the student of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Guillermo Silvente for his Master's Thesis (TFM), in which performs an open development of a monitoring system for a photovoltaic installation.

The microcontrollers and sensors of the system developed by the student measure weather conditions such as solar radiation, wind speed or humidity and electrical parameters such as the amount of energy produced or the voltage in the network to detect if there are problems in any module of the installation that reduces its performance.

The student, whose TFM has directed the professors of the Master in Renewable Energies Ángel Molina and Antonio Mateo, has installed the monitoring system on the photovoltaic panels that the UPCT has on the deck of its Industrial School.

"It is an example of teaching innovation," says Mateo.

The monitoring system uses non-specific resources and is based on open source and electronic code, not dependent on commercial programs or products, so it can be replicated by other users to measure the consumption and photovoltaic performance in homes or business facilities.

The pre-enrollment in the Masters of the Polytechnic of Cartagena, among which is the one of Renewable Energies that the awarded student attended, is open until October 6.
