The Carthaginian Navy landed at the port and hired mercenaries to fight against Rome (27/09/2019)

Carthaginians and Romans yesterday revived new historical events of the Punic Wars with the landing of the Carthaginian Navy, the hiring of mercenaries and the march to Rome.

Some episodes that served as a prelude to the great battle that will be held on Friday afternoon, a holiday in Cartagena, on the Cuesta del Batel.

The Romans thought that the confrontation with the Carthaginians would take place in the Iberian Peninsula.

But General Aníbal's long-range strategic vision led him to design a more ambitious plan for the submission of Rome.

While the Senate of Rome sent all its troops to the Iberian Peninsula, Hannibal left his brother Asdrubal in front of the peninsular troops and launched his army into an incredible crossing across the Pyrenees and the Alps, to attack Rome in the North.

At the Landing of the Carthaginian Navy, the troops disembarked at the port of Cartagena to join the Hannibal army before starting the march to Rome.

The hiring of mercenaries recreated the preparations for this great campaign when General Aníbal offered a tribute to the mercenary troops in exchange for their allies in the war, making sure they had the largest possible army to face the Romans.

The March of Aníbal's departure to Rome showed the Carthaginian power as the troops traveled an itinerary through the streets of the city that took them to the festive camp, commemorating the departure of the Carthaginian general to Rome, with an army of approximately one hundred thousand men, including cavalry and a considerable number of elephants to transport materials and later use them in battle.
